Give me free MP3 enhancers!

I got some mp3's I'd like to improve the quality. Some have a Kps of 160 and others with 192. I'd like to improve them to 200kps. What freeware out there can do that?

Audacity is very good free audio editor/recorder/player
no installation required if you download the zipfile

to make handle mp3, just download lame-inc.dll here

and extract it into audacity directory (plugin folder for ex.)and select it when prompt to do so

I agree with hadi, I only played around with Audacity for a bit but it worked for me. I was converting my WMP music into MP3s the only problem with it over all... well atleast with the free version was you could only convert a few files at a time. I believe it was 4. But, overall I found it easy to use. Also it doesn't write over the original it actually makes a copy put in a different format which I thought was cool

 

Converting from one lossy compressed format to another (e.g. .wmp to .mp3) is not a good idea since each format loses different bits of information, so converting from one to another gives you the worst of both. It is far better to re-encode from the original (a .wav file, CD or a lossless format like FLAC).

For this reason, it isn't really possible to "enhance" an existing MP3 without re-encoding from the original at a higher rate. However you would need exceptional hearing (and equipment) to tell the difference between 192kb/s and higher bitrates with MP3 provided you used a decent encoder (like Lame).
