Future Changes to Nod32

Well if they are indeed going to make it more simple, it would be very nice if that could be an option...
I mean an option to switch from standard to advanced and vice-versa.
The advanced would be the NOD we have now, the standard would be more automated or with lesser options and more explanation text here & there for the average user
It could also be another download like the ones we have now (standard & administrator).

 

i know avast has two interfaces but its only for the scanner. not sure what how a "simple" or userfriendly interface for nod32 would look like. like webyourbusiness, im not an average user so i learned nod32 in and out pretty quickly.

 

Have a button or two, to set up NOD32 with Blackspears extra settings automatically rather than manually setting up all the settings every time. As it gets rather time consuming and annoying doing it about 5 times a day on new computers or repair jobs. Buttons consist of 'default security', and 'high security'. Or something similar.

 

you can do this with a config file. It's a bit awkward, but setup one machine with remote admin and grab the config file - copy this file to:

c:\Program files\Eset\Install

THEN run the installer...

if you don't have NOD32 already installed, you need to create the folders before copying in the xml file, then running the installer. It's not a perfect system, and could do with a fair bit of improvement, such as nod32.xml import on a basic machine (not enterprise), but this might help you at least a little...

 

I would very much appreciate the courtesy of seeing the expiration date from day one. And somewhere obvious, please. SpySweeper puts it on their splash logo (which is on-screen for over a minute), or better yet, somewhere on the Control Center screen.

 

I'd like to be able to configure NOD, to exclude particular files (not extensions), from the on-demand scan.
Some programs install files that NOD detects as password-protected zip files, thus I get hundreds of entries in the scan log.

Had to make my own But still you can't see if any scan is progress though.

 

An option to create rules for blocking the creation, modification, execution etc. of *.pif, *.scr and other files, just like McAfee VSE 8.0i.

 

Allow the specification of port for smtp mail notification - for example, mail.eset.com:10025.

 

Improve functionality of Repair feature as Winsocfix apparently works better.

I have just printed out one report and even though it looks nice, the report does not fit on paper and the right part has been cut. It is too wide. My suggestion is to decrease left margin and to make report fit by width on a piece of paper.

they are different repairs I think - the nod32 repair is lsp repair, winsock repair is a different problem - not to say having both in the one spot wouldn't be a bad idea!

 

There will be no need for this as there will be no IMON in NOD32 3.0 anymore.

 

Have just bought it wished I read all this first, ROFL, what will happen to IMON ?? something better ? will try to add some suggests soon if not already suggested by someone.

An IPS like the one in VSE would be nice as long as it doesnt add bloat.

thats the reason i use NOD32. will there still be an HTTP scanner or a similar module to replace it?

 

It would be nice if a 64bit version was available as the version is not compatible with the 64bit windows.

Yep, the HTTP/POP3 scanning facility will be preserved. It will be much nicer and user friedly than the current version. It will bring some new features as well as a very simple interface for beginners.

 

And an IMAP scanner?

 

hash-based exclusion filter

I would love it if ESET would add a hash (md5 or sha1) based exclusion list in addition to (or instead of) the current path based exclusion function. Much more detail explained in my other post: MD5 based exclusion lists thanks!!

 

may be already on the wishlist, but i'd like it if the file shown in the AMON window would give the whole path to the file, and not just the file name.

 

NOD is planning version 3 as we all know, with a simplified interface for beginners. So it should have an attention grabbing warning for when your subscription is about to expire. Something that scares the **** out of you when you see it so it can't be ignored by a beginner who otherwise might think they will still be fine if they ignore it.
