Do you P2P?

Do you use filesharing applications?

Voting is anonymous, but if you do use P2P, please give details. If not, please give reasons.

 

I voted yes. I use eMule for music and occasionally for films, SoulSeek for music I can't find with eMule, and BitComet for films and occasionally music.

 

I voted NO, because security experts taught me not to use P2P softwares anymore, not even spyware-free P2P's.

Two years back I used winMX for downloading classical MP3's during 6 months.
After downloading 17 GB, I had more than enough and I was tired of downloading MP3's.
Downloading movies is a bit difficult for me, because my ISP limits my downloading upto 8.5 GB or 8,704 MB a month and that isn't much for movies (10 movies maybe).
My upload is limited to 1.5 GB or 1,536 MB, which means that I couldn't even share my MP3's with other members of winMX and most of them cancelled my downloading because I didn't share.
So I had to play a cat and mouse game with these members, which was fun of course.

If I exceed my limits, my ISP puts me on smallband as punishment, which is even worse than a 56K modem connection.
The only thing I could do with smallband was chatting, while the rest was terrible slooow.
My last punishment two years back was 3 weeks on smallband.
I can increase my limits of course, if I pay more, but the minimum of $51 a month for a cable connection is enough.
Communication is quite expensive in Belgium.
So I had my fun with P2P softwares and I don't need it anymore.

 

what should I say yes I do .. for various of reasons and not necessary illegal...

I did a long time ago when p2p was getting popular, but stopped using it a month or two later.

Never used it. No need to. Id rather not test out all my AV and AT software all the time either, which is pretty much what your doing if you do that. The risks are much greater IMO. So no P2P for me thanks.

 

Nope. Never felt the need to. I don't trust the files that are shared.

 

No way for me too, do not wish to see my av/at or antispyware applications in action.
I have also seen one too many HijackThis logs after p2p was used.
I know some use file sharing applications for a specific purpose but while they still have the associations they do have I am staying away completely.

There are many excusses why it is safe to use P2P but in reality you are just playing russian roulette with your computer. But that is your choice.

eMule and Bittorrent. Never got a virus, trojan, whatever...

 

I have downloaded well over 100GB from P2P and never got any virus/trojan/ect.

 

emule and azureus here. p2p is rele just like any other part of teh web, u just have to practive safe hex (avoid the wrong networks; use verified sources/downloads)

Yes I P2P, I run emule and all of my programs inside sandboxie and no problems here. When I close a program I delete contents of sandboxie.

 

No, I don't. Totally aside from the security (and possibly legal) problems, I'm on dialup so can't be bothered with the file sizes and download/upload times involved for music and video, which is all I might be interested in P2P for.

My music collection is strictly midi (but I do have hundreds of those), and about the closest I get to "video" is the rare Flash that I find worth saving.

No- unnecessary risk. My daughter does, and I regularly have to clean up her laptop as a result of downloaded malware....
