New F-Prot coming?

Hey,
I've heard that there is a new FRISK F-prot Windows version in development and hopefully will be released soon, does anyone know anything about this?

When is it released?

 

I've heard rumors that a new F-Prot 4 for Windows is on its way.

I heard that three years ago. I heard that two years ago. I heard that one year ago.

It's become a joke to be honest.

 

Frisk has released new versions of their other platforms so you would think FProt 4 was coming soon. Yes you would think someday soon. Soon being in the next year or two..or someday - someday soon...

 

Frisk have teamed up with 3DRealms so F-Prot 4 will be a joint release with Duke Nukem Forever...

 

This has to be one of the longest running jokes in the security sector. I mean really, can you imagne if Microsoft did something like that? .......

 

Unlike M$, Frisk seems to have an aversion to releasing alpha versions (while calling them beta) OR releasing beta versions (while calling them 4.0).

I regret their slowness in release of 4.0, but I am firmly convinced that (a) they have been working very hard on developing it, and (b) they are picky-picky-picky about getting their program right-on-target, and state-of-the-art) before releasing it. For those reasons I remain a fan of FP.

I still believe that Frisk is one of the truly *class acts* in the security-software business. When they do put 4.0 on the market, I will buy it.

Looking forward to a new RealTime Protector.. or atleast [one] that will allow
the user to gain more control over it.

 

Yeah,not that it will just detect crap and then you have to run On-Demand to clean it...

 

I guess that F-Prot 4 will be released around the begin of 2006 (I hope that, so I could include the new version in the tests of february 2006).

 

Heck, 4.0 was SUPPOSED to have been released at the beginning of 2005. Now it will come the beginning of 2006? Sheesh. I'm beginning to think never.

 

Speculations. We know nothing about the new version of F-Prot. No official word yet.

The biggest sequel to Duke Nukem Fornever!

 

It's a huge leap from the bare bones scanner of F-Prot 3 to the expected extra features of the new version; email scanner, better unpacking engine, quarantine, better configuration of the real-time scanner, incremental updating.

Further they have to incorporate these new features AND try to retain its famous low resource usage. " F-Prot Antivirus for Windows is designed to use the absolute minimum of your system's resources"

So give them time to get everything right. From most of the data that I see it is still a very good scanner.

 

I second this. In a couple weeks I'll be switching to F-Prot (my home network). I can't resist the license scheme.

is unbeatable value for a commercial AV.

 

To be honest, I don't care how long it takes, since the current version provides good protection. Unlike so many of the products I have to deal with on a day to day basis, F-Prot actually works. It doesn't give cryptic errors and act strange. If it does, then they fix it promptly. FRISK cares about their customers. Nobody is perfect, but at least they try.

I want version 4 to just work as well as the current version does. Also, I want to avoid the bloat that so many other security products have now. The bloat doesn't do anything to add to security from what I have seen.

I will be glad when version 4 is released, but I want it to be right the first time. I will jump at the beta once it comes out so I can provide feedback.
