So, Sygate will be part of the Symantec bloat stuff and i will need a replacement .

1.Easy to use.

2.Safe.

3. And cheap.

Should i switch to Outpost ?

I believe the DL link from LnS page also DLs 2.05p2 (even though it says LnS_SU_205.exe) ... the p2 version is the one to use.

 

Once Look and Stop is loaded and configured all you need to do is load in the enhanced ruleset and you will be pretty much good to go. (corrected for clarity)

 

Looks like that's the end of Sygate Firewall. Shame, since it was pretty good in some respects..

Sad news indeed. . Down load latest free version or the last version before SymBloat ruins it. This can not be good. What the heck! They already got a firewall!

 

That's my comment/question also. Why is Symantec buying Sygate? What are the advantages they gain and/or what products will buying Sygate allow them to do or do better?

Any thoughts?

 

its sad to see sygate go but at least i switched to outpost several months back when i started noticing that development was at a standstill.

 

We should have realized that something was up when the Pro version of 5.6 failed to materialize, and the beta development came to a standstill.

 

Only thing I can think of is to remove a competitor. Or fix something they can not solve. This last one is a long shot. But who knows. I think more will come out that will give more clues. I intend to keep a sharp eye on the story just for curiosity and fun.

Hmmm.. you wouldn't think they'd want to own two firewalls competing with each other, unless the firewalls were targeting different parts of the audience.

 

I guess it will happen more to other programs as well.

I Hope my track record improves soon , Purchased Giant, taken over by MS, purchased Sygate Pro, must admit 2 years ago and now Symantec has it.

I too noticed the lack of developement in the last year and have binned it in the last few weeks for another program, which is easier for the whole family to follow.

I switched some months ago from Sygate Pro to Kerio PF 4 free version (even though my license has several months to run on Sygate). I prefer the Kerio free version to Sygate Pro and in my view it covers your points 1, 2 & 3

Let's NOT make unsubstantiated (bashing) comments, it's fine if you feel any product isn't great or on par with other available products, but there isn't any point in making blanket statements spewing what some would consider 'popular opinion'. There is absolutely no issue with providing negative feedback for any product, as constructive criticisms and detailed opinions, will lead to (hopefully) product improvement and a more conscience consumer.

Any further unsubstantiated bashing statements will be removed to join the one post that already has.

I often regretted not having the opportunity of getting Zone Alarm Plus before it was done away with. It will be difficult to say if Symantec will keep the free version or not. Pro version software owners may wish to hold on to the last version too.

It appears from Ronjor's article that they are after specific technology to address a specific need. Hmmm. Thanks Ronjor for the info.

Yep, I agree. Best grab a copy of both now, while the grabbin' is good.

 

It's a shame, but I think once Symantec takes over Sygate will eventually disappear. Symantec already said as much when they mentioned finding places for Sygate's 200 employees. That pretty much says Sygate will cease to exist as a company.

I also doubt we'll see the free Sygate firewall for very long after Symantec takes over. How much free anything do we see from Symantec?
