I downloaded CureIT a mouths ago for my computer and it came as a zip file with quite a few contents in it (mostly update files). Today I downloaded it on another computer and it was just one .exe. So what’s the deal, do they release a new version containing the newest defs each week? I personally like the way mine is, as I can update it manually each week, I don’t think the new single exe one can be updated, I think you need to download a new one each week to get the most decent defs, but I am not positive. Anyone know what is up for sure?

Yes, you need to download a new one every week.

Thanks for confirming that Don, I guess that is better for the casual user as they may not know how to update it property. I am glad I got the “older package”, although I guess it would be just as easy to download the new exe every week as it is to download the new update. Either way I think CureIT is a great on-demand scanner and a great backup to supplement NOD32.

Zip was replaced by SFX zip.
Unzip it by WinZip and update it in old manner.

Hmm it seems as if they actually release a CureIT with the latest defs daily. I just downloaded it again on the other machine and compared the number of defs loaded with the number on their site and they matched. It seems as if CureIT’s purpose is not to be an on-demand scanner, but rather a “tool” that can be downloaded in case you think you are infected. Even though I think it makes a great backup scanner. Does anyone know if it is basically the same as the on-demand scanner included with the full version of Dr. Web?

No, it is slightly restricted as no archive scanning available.

True, I did notice that some options are disabled, but is the interface the same?

General GUI of CureIT is the same as the on-demand scanner in the commercial Dr Web.

And in File types, as you have probably found out by now, "Mail" is another option which cannot be selected either.

I'm working on CureIT! updater. I still have some problems to solve, but in general i have a working version.
For now it downloads all database files on each update run,but i'll try to solve that so it will download only different to avoid large downloads and to lower DrWeb update servers overhead. I hope i'll manage to do that :)
