Disk Image 8 "surprise".

I have a 40GB fixed disk with three partions;
1) Data D:
2) Windows XP E:
3) Data F:

I also have another fixe disk with data C:
And I have a WD USB 2 External drive.

I used Acronis Disk Image 8 to make a "Disk Image"
of the above 40GB fixed drive storing it on the WD External Drive.

I then replaced the above 40GB drive with a 300GB drive.
I partitioned the 300GB Drive each with 99GB partitions.
Then I used Disk Image 8 to restore the image on the
External drive to the 300GB drive. The partitions were
resized by Disk Image 8. I was surprised that it did not
restore the used portion of each partition to existing
99 GB partitions.

What Acronis product would do this?

Have a look at Disk Director.

 

TrueImage 8 will do this if you adjust the size of the partitions during the restore procedure.

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

If you restore an image archive of the entire hard disk including the master boot record (MBR), then you cannot resize the partitions. There are two possible workarounds, if you want to restore the partitions with resizing while the MBR is also restored.

- Restore the entire hard disk without resizing and then restore each of the partitions separately setting the proper size for it and overwriting the previously restored one.

- Restore the partitions separately resizing them and then fix the MBR manually by one of the below ways:

1) Boot the computer from Windows 95/98/ME Startup Disk and run "fdisk /mbr" command;
2) Boot the computer from Windows 2000/XP Installation CD and run "fixmbr" command in Recovery Console.

Also you can use Acronis Disk Director Suite 9.0 to resize your partitions.
