Yeah, the "Pocket Rocket" was a joy to watch. Of course he had a few "decent" team mates. Just thinking about the teams that Montreal had in that era sends chills down my spine. As in all sports now, mostly because of Free Agency, I do not follow any particular team but enjoy watching individual players. Since Bird, Magic, and Kareem have left I also gave up on the NBA. MLB, forget it! There are still quite a few Soccer players left, not the cheats or prima donnas, who are worth watching.

The season may not be dead yet,

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=115420&hubName=nhl

U know when u get the likes of Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux involved, something serious is happening.

How bizzare is this going to be if NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has to step up to the podium again to announce there is a deal after killing the season last wednesday. o_O

This could only happen in the National Hockey League.

What ever it is, get it done. Give us back the game we love.....

    Well, Snowy ...

    It's Officially Dead! - http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Co...523&call_pageid=968332188492&col=968793972154

    Sadly, Completely Comical.

I wonder when all involved will wake up and smell the coffee?

I don't think to many teams will survive this disaster, especially in the southern States. Too bad none of those involved seem to realize that there will be a new economic in hockey, like it or not, and Neither side is being represented fairly or properly IMHO. Contraction will be the result of this stalemate, which will have consequences for all.

Here are a few results I think we are likely to see. First and foremost the loss of at least 10 teams. So many 3rd and 4th liners, can pretty much kiss their jobs away. The loss of these teams will also mean there will be new found abundance of talent, which should results in lower overall salaries, due to the flooding of the supply side of the market, and the contracted demand - but who knows it's not like the owners haven't shot themselves in the foot several times over the past two decades  . So it looks like the group designated to be protected by the NHLPA, will get what they deserve too :). I wonder how the NHL is going to compensate the teams that do fold, or how it will compensate surviving teams for the loss of revenues (merchandise sales etc.) generated by those newly departed teams. A bad national TV deal, will get much worse, with the loss of interest in general, and specifically in Cities that will have lost teams. Just so it doesn't look like I left the NHLPA out of the loss column, in the end less members equals less dues. :)

So clearly there are no winners. Gary will get his new "economics", and league will re-launch the "new" NHL ... but in the end the price paid is too much. Sadly, the league will never ever be the same again.

For the record, I won't be around to watch the re-birth. I love hockey, and the NHL ain't the only game in town. Hopefully TSN, Sportsnet, and The Score will have the foresight to sign regional deals to televise minor hockey, like the OHL, QMJHL, and the Western ... then the fans won't totally lose.

    ~LOL ... Talk about committing suicide.~

At least the dog and pony show is over.

A pox on both their houses. I hope they know the damage they have done.

The myth that hockey players were different from other greedy pro sports athletes has now been blown out the door.

The owners can't control themselves so now they need someone else to do it for them.

    How typical is that.

The junior ranks will definitely be getting my support for a long time to come.

Just an update - The NHL cancelled this years draft in Ottawa as expected :doubt:

It'll be the year of Crosby, come the next draft ... hopefully in 2006. :doubt:

Oops! Read this Morn that deal not quite done. Reports are that the last sticky point is changing the term 'slapshot' to 'slapstick'. I kinda like the idea! Kinda more like a Mickey and Goofy competition!

Guys, guys, guys......show a little composure.

As the great philosopher Yogi Berra has often said, 'It ain't over til it's over'. Hopefully next week you can complete the quote with.....'but when it's over; it's over'

We should have a bet as to how many games Lindros will play for the Leafs? I hope this signing doesn't eliminate Anson Carter from joining Toronto.

I'll say 40 games(sidelined with concussion number 9 or whatever it is). ;)

Well if Carter would agree to a 1.5 million dollar, one year contract(seems the Leafs like this number) it should be no problem. :D ;) :D

What they are really lacking is that horse on defence....

IMHO, they should try and yank Brendan Witt out of Washington. Would be a great addition to the team.
