Generally agree. Although I suppose most aren't trying to achieve 100%, but as close to it as is practical.

I'm sure DeepFreeze'ing a computer and never shutting it off would come very close to being 100% secure (would only not be if a flaw was found in it)...but it wouldn't be practical.

edit : secure, as in, no nasties would stay on it. Not 'secure' as in, nasties couldn't temporarily stay onboard until next reboot.

Yes, the question is whether the system would even last to the next reboot. Undoubtedly, this is the reason the same company developed Anti- Executable, which is sort of like ProcessGuard in "Block new and changed application" mode, with a little bit of wiggle-room for anti-virus software updates.

That's true, nothing is....but since the only 100% secure alternative is to NOT go on the internet (and that's not a reasonable alternative), having a good, reliable security set-up beats surfing around with nothing at all (like I used to do years ago when I first got a computer, and like many people still do to this day).....

Well I thought I would check back in and see how the poll on this was running, not to many surprises, except the number of those listing "none".

Wow, there is a whole lot of potential customers out there who need AT security.......... :D

I just use Ewido (free) for on demand scans. There is no real time AT running on my PC.

    Cheers

Now that TDS-3 is gone, I am relying on KAV, ProcessGuard and RegDefend. And, as companies can't keep up with the speed and multitude of trojan making, I do not intend buying another AT to replace TDS. Is's'nt the future in HIPS?

This makes sense to me also. Currently, I don't plan on replacing TDS-3 for any available anti-trojan on the market today. I see times changing for improved technology. AV's are getting pretty good at detecting trojans.

    ewido with a-squarded and Trojan Remover as backup;

TR only scans at book or manual, a-sq.free manual. But they are part of a layered defence: Comcast Cable, Linksys router with stateful packet firewall, ZoneAlarm Security Suite (ZA firewall with Mailfrontier spamfilter and eTrust EZ Antivirus, and anti-spyware, etc), Prevx1, ProcessGuard (full), SpywareBlaster (autoupdate), Spybot S & D, Ad-aware, Socketlock, CWShredder, RootkitRevealer, Rootkit Hook Analyzer, F-Secure Blacklight (beta), Rootkit Detector, IceSword, JPEGScan, RapidBlaster Killer, several Gibson small apps, and Port Explorer. There may seem a lot, but note almost all are manual. I figure that several anti-rootkit programs are necessary since that niche of malware is changing constantly and quickly.. Ewido, my AV, and firewall. Ewido replaces TDS-3 somewhat.

    Notta, none anymore.

HIPS programs such as System Safety Monitor, Cyberhawk and the like sufficiently intercept ANY problem communication signals before they get a chance to latch to anything. In fact CyberHawk is a TERMINATOR! too.

Malware chiefs are going to have to prey on the very early newcomers to internet use anymore because with the likes of HIPS and a good firewall that combo puts a final end to all their fun IMO.

Presently I use KAV 5.0 and do not see a need to use a dedicated AT program in real time.

for now I am using Ewido 4...but this is just for 30 days. :D after trial period back to none. But i hope I'll be protected by my WinXP sp2 firewall (inbound), and maybe they'll be detected by my ProcessGuard and WinPatrol and of course my Avast Home anti-virus can also detects some in real-time. :D ;)

It should read "TR only scans at boot." I have researched, observed, and experimented; I have eliminated some programs I did not need. I am using ProcessGuard on an older computer that I'm using as a server; it is not needed on this one because of Prevx1. The Security programs now

    ewido anti-malware
    Prevx1
    ZoneAlarm Security Suite
    Trojan Remover 6.4.9
    SpywareBlaster v3.5.1
    DiamondCS JPEGScan
    DiamondCS Wormguard
    DiamondCS WormGuard Hook
    RootkitRevealer

    DiamondCS Port Explorer v2.110
    ZoneLog 1.19

Prevx1 has made many security apps unnecessary. I keep ewido because with it, Trojan Remover, Prevx1 I have 3 anti-Trojans without conflict. SpywareBlaster, with autoupdate, is about ten bucks a year and has a paralell technology of immunization-but uses signatures. I kept one anti-rootkit, RootkitRevealer, to act as backup to that facet of Prevx1. I have set my antivirus -during downloads in Mozilla Firefox- to scan JPEGs, in the MailSafe feature of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite I include JPG and JPEG, and DCS JPEGScan. Prevx1 appears to replace these other technologies; although as a raving paranoid I cannot wean myself of all these others.
Has Prevx Ltd. made DiamondCS unneeded? except for PE and WG?
I keep wondering why even have a Wormguard 4, except to give it a prettier GUI. It does what I want; it blocks scripts that I don't use, or use much. I have edited the lockfile and I've added extensions. Remember from the Mission statement in WG help? "- that never requires updating yet is powerful enough to allow complete customisation for the network administrator." Wormguard blocks scripts and allows you to safely view scripts. What more needed, save a cute GUI?

Ewido 3.5 and newest version of BOClean.

ZASS (but I don't use the AV in it, I use Panda Pro on line scan) with a new Router with FW from Buffalo. It's the new Nfiniti Wireless Draft N and I love it.

So easy to set up. To take advantage of the 270 Mbps you need the adapter which I will get.

BoClean. I also have a liscence for Ewido but it uses too much resources so I
use it only as "on demand".:)

BOClean here. Supposed to be the best. I didn't say that. :D

I notice "None" selection is way out in front. :ninja:
