Well then you`d have to connect to the net then it`ll check the make sure the code is OK then you`re all set.

Well I am getting more impressed. Was at a financial due diligence web site(not one I'd even consider suspicious) and OA popped up with an active X warning, which I blocked. Fantastic.

Now what I think would be great is "a life time license " . process guard / regdefend and one or two other classy security apps offered that as an option at the early release of their products . A once off offer .

Interesting as i get an alert when logging into Hotmail, asking if i want to block a dangerous ActiveX control coming from msn.com !

The thing is i have all ActiveX disabled in the first place, so i'm not quite sure what's going on there, is it sneaky MS or something else ?

In the main everything appears to be running a lot more smoothly lately, which is definately good news.

This may indicate using an old evaluation key with the release version, or a new evaluation key with the old version. It simply means that they key cannot be found in the database.

    Hi StevieO

Any activeX control is considered potentially dangerous by OA at the moment, so it will alert for any it finds.

    Hi Mike,

I know you already have plenty of beta testers, but I'm wondering if I could at least have a temp key to try out this baby for the 15 day period. I DL'd the install .exe from your site's trial link, but it's still asking for a key. If you're waiting before offering the trial version, that's cool. I'll just wait until it's released to the unwashed masses!! :D

Hi - send me an email, and I will send you an eval key. I'm hoping to get the new website finalised in the next day or so (but, realistically it will probably be next week now) and the new site will have a neato little licence request form, or some automated way of getting an eval key.

    Cheers

    Mike

Yes, a good idea Solarpowered candle, I agree. Funny though how it was ignored.

The conflict is with Prevx Home. Px enabled causes OA to cpu spike to 90+ every 10-20 seconds. Without Px, I see 00-05 tops - up to 33% reloading pages in Firefox.

Licencing has already been discussed at length in this thread. The model has been decided and we're sticking with it for the moment.

I'd like to share some of experiences/thoughts so far of using OA with you. Your feedback would be most welcome.

OA mostly does launch first, but not always.

OA wants Internet access far to early on after a reboot, before all the other Apps have loaded and settled down. I suggest putting a 2 Min etc delay to ensure Full PC security from FW etc. I have set mine to Manual.

My boot time is about 3 X longer than normal.

Apps/Files/Folders/ take about 2 - 3 longer to launch, than without OA.

OA wouldn't let me Copy/Paste my KEY into the Registration box, i had to enter it Manually. A bit of a pain, but i presume it's for a reason ? The only thing is, your Average user is probably gonna make mistakes.

I think the TRUSTED sites page might be a bit of a Privacy issue with some people. Not everyone would wish to have certain, or indeed Any sites they visit listed available to be viewed by Any user of the PC. I'm Not just talking about maybe dodgy sites or whatever, but some people will feel that it's nobodys business where someone has been, or goes to. I think there should be a general option NOT to record sites visited if that's what people want. If that means having to click to accept everytime, then so be it. And/or you could have a switchable overide option that people could toggle On/Off whenever they wished. Also a CLEAR ALL button is required to save clicking thru All the sites that would build up.

If an App needs to be erased from the list for some reason, does the DELETE option actually Delete the Program from the HD, or just from the list in OA ? I needed to do this recently as an App failed to launch ? with an error message from OA. It was already in my TRUSTED Apps. As it said it was going to Delete Files and Registry Keys i chose not to at this point for safety.

Having said that, along my with previous comments, i think OA is on the right track. And as Mike has mentioned, they want to keep it user friendly so most people will be able to steer it in everyday life. The inclusion of an ( Experts ) panel is a sound idea.

I've had a few boot problems - probably due to PG - Fsecure and SNS so I have set OA to manual start at the moment.

I know the idea is simple interface for Mum - but is there a realtime events style windows that I can pull up if I like?

    Overall

OA is very interesting - be interesting to see a feature by feacture comparison with other products? I would quite like to rationalise my setup a bit - but at the moment each product covers a different piece of the pie but overlaps a bit too much.

Hey Starfish and StevieO - Ok! I will look at delaying internet access on OA until say 2 minutes after a user has logged on - or perhaps, a "how do you connect to the internet" question in SCW.

There will be a product comparison on the new site - hope it will be ready soon.

As for realtime events window - no - but I can add this to the list for advanced mode... something like "OA allowed trusted application xyz to run..." "OA found XYZ and auto blocked..."

This brings up a question that I have: How exactly can you tell which items "load first"? I have been told, for example, that Prevx loads very early, but when I trialed it the Prevx icon seemed to be one of the last things that loaded. I was told that didn't matter, though, because the actual program loaded up much earlier than the icon would indicate.

So how exactly can someone tell what programs load in what order?

maybe its in the event log somewhere? idk, i never pay much attention to the order and timing in which something loads tho u can use programs like startup faster or speedboot to organize/reorder and delay ur startup items.
