My computer was running great. I installed sns. Upon reboot I have nothing but problems. Dr. Watson showed up immediately and wanted to crash explorer and sagui and Watson itself crashed by dump___ error reporting tool. I uninstalled it but now the Watson problem remains

Don't tell me you ran safensec with Processguard and a million other security proggies?

Is that what you call a conflict between security softwares ?

 

Do you have POrevx installed sagui is a component of that I think. I run SNS with process guard and its seems fine Prevx does not play nice on my machine

 

And Prevx+Processguard+SSM plays nice on mine. Heck I can even add antihook without problems.

But I'm just lucky. Normally I don't expect so many proggies with similar functions to play well.

If you can handle running so many software together fine, but don't go crying to tech support if it works strangely or crashes.

Nowadays the tech support people have a hard enough job as it is. Fine. they are expected to make stuff work with zone alarm , Norton and other popular firewalls and antiviruses.

But seriously, you really can't expect them to know the ins and outs of another niche specialised competitor product and the conflicts that occur if you are foolhardy enough to run them together.

Most of them have enough problems handling "normal setups" , let alone the typical wilders setup with a couple of "kernal level proggies" .

 

Well, I didn't know and it doesn't report possible conflict like Outpost does. I didn't install the AV version. What bothered me was the problem persisted after uninstalling it.I ran system restore - back to normal.

Have you reported this problem on SnS's forum? I think it is important that the company and other users know about this problem you ran into. At the very least there should be a warning before anyone tries to install SnS on top of other IPS software.

Usually I take particular care before installing products such as SnS. I personally ran into some minor problems but I was able to retore to an image copy. I had similar issues when installing Prevx Pro - it did something to my system which the uninstall could not remove. Ditto, I went back to an image copy.

I use Image for DOS, which has proven to be very reliable (it creates the image under DOS so no Windows process is running while I am creating the image) and I write to a Maxtor external drive.

Hope you are able to resolve your problem. Have you tried manually removing all SnS folders as well as using a registry cleaner (with care) to try to remove all remnants of SnS. I know, this may not help, since I have to use the image copy to get rid of these type of products.

In my post above yours I state, "back to normal" using system restore. I use True Image as a second to last resort - last being reformat.

I cannot add a lot more at the moment at kernel level...I don't understand either...I tried ssm with this all...hell, even the new processor I have (amd64) makes me choose between tiny and outpost fw...wtf

but even if I would try

STOP THE WORKING SERVICE OF PG, RD, SSM, PREVX,.... if you install another kernel proggie
that's the only thing that would work here...but not necessary it would work on another machine.

at least stop the monitoring of your apps when isntalling sns

I totally understand what you are saying - and I agree. But with SnS and PG is a bit of a conundrum, since I have PG installed and it is guarding specific applications (e.g. ZoneAlarm) against any kind of changes, so from my perspective, PG has to stay active at all times - or at least until I trust an application in such a way that I do not feel I need to have PG running. An example would be Windows Update.

So, at this point in time, I do not shut down PG unless I am installing Windows Updates (and possibly a new version of KAV), which creates a problem since PG and SnS may collide on restart. In any case, I am happy where I am at at this point, and will probably wait a while before I revisit SNS, which seems to have some very nice features.

Yes Rich, right you are. I only want to say one thing:

try to install ATI Driver (video driver) and you know what I mean I guess...cause it's impossible for me to do it when PG is active (exe prot/whatever...need to stop everything from pg to install new ati driver)...
that was the issue with some progs too...but I believe that's normal at the end...we don't know what's going behind the curtins .. that would bring the discussion up of hooks and rootkits too...it's soooooo close and the line of difference is very hard to see.

I had a problem with ATI Omega drivers but had no problems when I first uninstalled the old drivers first then installed the new drivers. Usually, you can just install over the top. This is with PG driver monitor disabled.

I have Outpost and BlackIce running like they were made for each other - even though at startup OP warns.

Totally true. Sometimes it is impossible to install products with PG running - so then a user just has to trust the vendor - as you suggested.

Exactly. All this talk about needing PG is silly, any security program you install is explictly trusted anyway, otherwise why the hell are you installing it?
