Did you (both) disable the FW/IDS during the installation, if you use a firewall then conflicts are possible if installing without disabling this. Also did you try to disable the webscan, it's not working properly (known problem).:)
It will if you post it at the betasection of the Kaspersky forum. ;) :)

    Hi,

I disabled FW/IDS as Don's message on Kaspersky's site recommends and everything seems to be working fine. But for the life of me, I do not know why this is not made more obvious in KAV's install program. Unless someone knows (e.g. from reading Don's message on the KAV forum) to uncheck the "default settings" and then uncheck IDS (and iStreams in my case), I don't know how a typical user would know this. This is one reason, it is very difficult to recommend KAV to people. KAV's default procedures seems to allow for too many "installation failures", without any proper guidance. They REALLY need to work on the usability issues. It is downright awful. If it wasn't for Don and his advice, I probably would have been forced to leave KAV long ago. Thanks Don!!

What are the problems known with the webscan? I have not encountered any using KAV 6.0.12.174a and ZA 5.5.094.000 PRO.

The problem areas are disabled default in the 174a build (port 80, http), thats why you are not seeing any problems, but if you run into any, then try to disable the webscan completely before doing anything drastic. :)

P.s. I didn't any other problem's than the port 80 issue, very promissing so far, a new build should be out soon, they have just slowed the pace a bit after 5-6 builds in 1-2 weeks.

I'm probably just confused, but how come the 175 build is in beta, while the 174a build is still pre-beta? o_O

    Both are PRE-BETA.

174a was supposed to the the official BETA, but was found to be far to buggy for release.

The last version, 176 build, was just published today in their ftp site. (Sorry, my first posted link doesn't work).

    Best regards,
    Firefighter!

Since Kaspersky's Anti-Hacker is not really a 'complete' firewall and Sygate is a known problem with KAV, I was wondering which firewall is best to use with KAV6 betas (i.e., no conflict and most effective)? o_O

Is the KAV 6.0 built 176 better than 175 or 174a? Any problems with built 176? To upgrade you just uninstall the previous and restart windows and install new beta right? or Put the new beta ontop of old beta? Does the built 176 have the port 80 problem which has to be disabled in the port settings?

Well, I´ve downloaded KAV 6, and that wasn´t a good idea, it won´t run on a slow machine, I´m also not sure if I like the new GUI, I prefer the old one. It should also just do what I want it to do, and stop scanning my system everytime it´s started.

And what´s up with the AntiRootkit tech? It will check for rootkits every 20 minutes? o_O But is it correct to say that KAV wants to become a bit more like Prevx, and I guess that´s a good thing?

Why are Kaspersky products so buggy compared to other AV's?

Hey guys, this is only a beta version so it's not so good to make that comments...

Try it when the stable release will be ready, and then you can say something about... ;)

You do realize that this is a beta and in fact is first expected to be released in 2-4 months, don't you?

Actually I didn't realise it was beta. Even still, i've found their products to be pretty buggy and bloated, which is why I don't run it despite getting free licenses every year.

It has only minor performance development related to previous KAV versions, but it's still not enough.

I've been reasonably impressed by the latest version of KAV 5.0 Pro. I am running XP SP2, 512K, 2.5 Ghz machine. The impact is not noticeable - even when running online games. BOClean and Giant AS (when I run them) have far greater inpact insofar as CPU usage is concerned.

My feeling is that I good anti-malware package is going have to do a good amount of "digging" and inspecting in order to ferret out all of the nasties that are out there nowaday, which is why I choose to run KAV and Ewido in real-time. Given this criteria (i.e comprehensive scanning and inspecting), I would say that I am very pleased with the current level of performance. Of course, I realize, there are situations where the performance is not acceptable for other users, but I did want to relate my own experiences on a machine with the above described configuration.

Btw, can someone tell me what all these new features are exactly supposed to do? I mean how do they exactly work. o_O To be more specific, I would like to know more about:

    · Proactive defense module with history and roll-back option
    · HTTP traffic checking (AV)
    . Script-Checker with Internet Explorer GUI plug-in

These 2 things I am familiar with:

    · Anti-Rootkit technology
    · Registry monitor

Maybe I will also sign up for the KAV forum, but I just wonder what benefit we will get from all the new stuff, I had KAV installed a couple of days ago, but it was a disaster, so I couldn´t check out all the features.

Check over on the KAV forum where Don & co will give you a warm welcome.

Further, if you have the beta still installed check the help-file.

well KAV doesnt include KAH (onyl KIS does) and u can just disable the integrated IDS. for firewall id recommend outpost but im not sure if its compatible, so maybe LnS, Tiny, or Kerio.

Some suggestions here but there are, surprise, surprise with a pre-beta release, still lots of conflicts.

In my testing with some of the earlier builds, KAH seemed to do a good job so why not try KIS 2006 instead of KAV for now?
