Dmitry & Chris seem to be on vacation from their RegRun support forum. For instance, THIS thread appears to have remained unanswered since May 4, 2005. Perhaps it was replied to by PM. If so, they should have closed it or something. Otherwise it sure looks like a largely unresponsive forum right now.

Does anyone have any news about RegRun folks? I do hope that all is okay at Greatis. RegRun is one of my favorite security applications.

    Hi bellgamin,

I have a question on the UnHackMe forum that also went unanswered (it has been several weeks). They are either too busy or don't care. Either way, it doesn't bode well for users.

In an attempt to get their attention, I have submitted a support ticket to Greatis. I hope they respond soon.

Delighted to hear it, Dmitry. What about Chris?

Do you mean that RegRun's support forum is no longer a vehicle for *RegRun community* or for obtaining support on minor issues?

I've noticed there has been a new update every week to the application database, so they are working on it. I must also concur that it is a favourite application. I'm very surprised it doesn't get more attention/credit from the community. There's nothing quite like it.

This appears to be so true. As an example, the creator of WinPatrol has usually been VERY good about responding to forum messages, etc., even as recently as a couple of weeks ago....but with the newest beta version set to be released on June 16th, as you can imagine (and have eluded to here), he hasn't been nearly as responsive the past week or so.

I totally agree on that !! am using it for years now!

There are a lot of problems, that are posted here which can be prevented
or solved easy with Regrun Gold.

The last years it has developed in a complete suite of Security-Admin tools now. Perhaps, people think it is (still) just another Registry tool,
and a lot of them don't want to make changes in the Registry,
because that is too difficult for them.
(but of course, they would change their mind, if they would try it once!).

It i one of my "i-can't-work-without-it" applications.

    ;)

I don't know if that's necessarily it, tuatara.....because when anyone checks out RegRun's web-site, they see this first and foremost:

"RegRun NIVA is excellent tool kit for protecting your computer against viruses or Trojans or spyware or Adware parasites. The NIVA uses the newest technology in the world. Fight with the bad guys by the most powerful weapon.

The next paragraph offering explanation of the product says:

"What you should know about NIVA?

NIVA is not an antivirus in a common sense. It does not scan your disk and detect/cure using signature database. There are a lot of antiviral software that you can choose. RegRun NIVA checks all Windows startup holes and it can detect and remove any UNKNOWN virus. The modern viruses spreads to the millions computers in the world for a pair days. First, a virus kills an antivirus and disables a way to update the antiviral databases.

So perhaps many people think that it is "yet another" anti-virus/anti-spyware, etc. type app.....so many will think "well, I've already got THAT pretty well covered". It seems that features that differ from most AV/AS/AT products, like the "RunGuard" (which emphasizes more protection to registry files, etc.) is available only in the highest pay model (GOLD), and that the cleaning tools aren't emphasized all that much. I am very interested in RegRun and welcome all testimonials that anyone can or would like to provide, but from the developers own web-site (and words of emphasis), it seems to be more of an "anit-crapware" than a true registry tool. So maybe they have done a 360 and decided that many people didn't realize all of the extents to which RegRun can fight crapware, so they have really gone out of their way to emphasize that (and thus, not providing as much detail about how it defends/cleans the registry, etc.).....

Well, I am very pleased with RegRun Gold !!!

I also know that there are more experienced users than me; only to name three: Mickey (global mod) and Lars (retired global mod) and Root (retired global mod).

Have you seen the review by Root (Ghery, very dear old friend):

Me, too!!! However, I have PRO, not Gold. I didn't have the gold for Gold. :'(

Truly RegRun is the *Swiss Army Knife* of security programs. It will protect not only your computer's security, but its stability & health, as well.

Also, for a non-geek like me, RegRun is a great hobby. That is -- even though I've been using RegRun for ~2 years, I am still discovering (from time to time) how better to use this amazing program.

By the way... can anyone tell me what NIVA means?

    On the FAQ:

    What is NIVA?

NIVA is "New IV Advanced" version of RegRun.

    It's the fourth generation!

:D ..and I fully agree, Bellgamin. I'm always discovering new uses for RegRun. It's usefulness goes far beyond just registry monitoring. I actually tend to forget that it is also a security app. I just wish the control center was more well organized.

I know that they were talking about a "Platinum" version that has the functionality of UnHackMe built in, maybe this is what they're working on?

If you want a breakdown on what it can do, look here http://www.greatis.com/security/detail.htm

Another 'neat' little feature is the bait file. This is a file that keeps activating in various location's which viruses target. If there is an unknown virus on your pc infecting files, then the bait offers itself and if it gets infected you will get a pop-up telling you that it has been modified. It's like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey, but in this case it dangles a file in front of a virus. Good way of discovering new unknown viruses.

Tbh, there are so many features that it's nearly impossible to tell you them all. Look at the link(above). It gives a good idea of what it can do. It also has a trial available. Took me 7 days to realise it is indispensible and i promptly paid for the standard edition. 7 days later i upgraded to Gold. Don't regret it one bit.

Another nice thing about RegRun is that you can run it on Windows 98 and ME.
So for us on older systems who cannot run tools like ProcessGuard and RegDefend, there is at least RegRun :)

    Talking about RegDefend:
Kent (Puff) has made a list of RegRun entries to use in RegDefend.
(Tony and others have also made suggestions for RegDefend entries.)
I have been thinking about the other way around:
Maybe some RegDefend entries can be used in RegRun.
But I have to admit that I haven't looked more closely at it (and I can't use RegDefend)

Hey, lets not make it kernel driven. People like me who use Win ME wouldn't be able to use it. I'm all for progress, but this application is a smart piece of kit that gives EVERYONE an opportunity to use it. Not just the one's lucky enough to own Win XP.

Is RegRun a one-time fee, or a yearly pay model?

It's a one time fee :) and it's getting constantly better and better. Very nice features like Antispyware segment and Antireplacement. the registry protection is working as supposed and offers adequate protection right of the box...

.. and indeed making it kernel driven it would complicate it for win98 users.
It's better to share all the fun :)

Bellgamin, now they (Dimitry & Chris) have read these thread, it will take another week extra before they respond.

Because they know now, that the implementation of the Kernel-driven part,
has to be implemented as an OPTION now!

Anyone using Regrun (gold pro or stand) on Win9x how is it on resources?

Does it suck up a lot of ram? How much?

How is it on system resources - GDI Free Sys Free User Free

How is it at finding adware malware (compare to SS&D, SpySweeper, & Spyware Doctor)

How is the registry backup? It looks like a nice tool.

    TIA

yes, it's a very handy program and I consider myself as a proud user
RegRun is not a scanner...it observers registry entries from modification like your homepage, bho's, services,...and whenever it's not the way you wanted, you can change it back.
If you use Nod32, it autodetects it automaticaly too.
only 1800kb in memory, very light (one of my lightest monitoring/protection apps.) it is in usermode so it works out for all windows I believe.

    Thanks Infinity,

If it is not a scanner how does it do this:

    http://greatis.com/security/pics/antispyware.jpg

    and this:

    Antivirus Coordinator
Coordinator detects the well-known antivirus programs (it can be customized to incorporate lesser-known AV programs), and uses this information to quickly check startup files and folders, if necessary.
