Hi all. I've just bought this for my secondary pc after being recommended it by the guy who set up the networking between my two computers. My main pc runs KAV Pro 4 which I'm very happy with, and I was going to go with KAV Lite for the other one but I thought I'd give McAfee a go. A couple of things: It won't install if you've got Norton on your machine, which I did have because I couldn't remove the NAV which came with my pc. After some hunting around on the Symantec boards I found some software which got rid of Norton.

I have to say that this sort of thing puts me off both companies where you have to fart around making sure everythings compatible - later on in the setup McAfee started objecting to Zone Alarm but I got round this by turning ZA off during the install.

Anyway, does anybody use McAfee and what's your impression?

    Hi Ashak
I run VS7 on my sec. pc too, and it has been relatively trouble free.
I had some problems recently with some bad downloads through the instant updater, which made some lock conflicts
An upgrade to IU didnt work so well , but that is corrected.
But i know that many experince problems with Mcafee, so i cannot wholeheartly reccomend it.
    If it works well, fine
The new scanengine will hopefully make VS more stabel.
    Regards
    Ole ;)

    Thanks Madsen,

I haven't really had a good look at it yet but it looks pretty user-friendly, nice interface etc. The bottom line is obviously how good it is at preventing infection though. My KAV isn't all that easy to configure as I'm not that tech-savvy, but I bought it because I heard it was one of the best and most comprehensive programmes out there.

One other question about McAfee; With KAV I'm pretty confident that it's a good protection against Trojans, but I don't know what McAfee's reputation is like in this regard? Will my secondary pc need an additional Anti-Trojan programme as well? I am on ADSL so have a permanent connection.

    cheers
    Ashak

Its pretty good against trojans too, but no rival to KAV.
Im no expert, but ive learnt here, that a AT scanner always is a good idea.
I still dont run one myself, so perhaps the others here can advise you.
    Regards Ole :)

I use McAfee V7 and like it. So far, I've had no problems of any kind. I can't speak as to whether it's better or worse than any other.

I'm not as impressed with the firewall that comes with V7, but McAfee seems to have conflicts with most firewalls other than their own. I had Sygate and had to remove it, tried a couple of others and same problem.

    Hi Chuck
FW4 is actually not that bad ;)
A firewall that runs well with VS7 is ZAPRO.

Well, I just upgraded my VS7 to the new firewall engine and whatever else they upgraded along with it. Everything seems to work better. I should have gotten the upgrade before I made the other post.

You are sure, that it is the 4240 engine you are running.
You cant get it through the IU yet. ( i think)
There is a Superdat you have to download.
I think it was March 26, you can get it via IU.
