We are upto build 171 now. Http scanning is coming along nicely. Still a few bugs but otherwise i'm enjoying the experience.

Hi, I recently downloaded and installed KAV 6.0.12.172 beta and I really liked the interface and the perceived potential of the new features however with my experience of the beta it is still very flawed with my set up ( I am sure that some of the flaws are my ignorance of the program). One of the problems I encountered was losing my internet connection. I disabled the anti hacker on the install and yet it conflicted with my firewall (sygate 5.5). The other flaw I encountered before I uninstalled the program was that it would not remember that I had done a full system scan. I did three full system scans and it never did remember that I had just scanned my system prompting me to do a full system scan when I had done x3 already. I do like KAV 5 and that is my current AV program of choice. I am looking forward to the next beta build or the finished product as it looks like when it is ready for the marketplace it will be the AV product to top. They really need to ditch the anti hacker aspect of the program as I am sure that 99.9 % of all of the people using KAV are running a firewall and do not need IDS with their AV program.

    One is KAV (Anti-Virus)
Other one is KIS (Internet Security package, including Firewall etc.).

new builds almost every day now available from ftp://kav2006:Fynb02dbhec60@data.kaspersky.ru/

at present it looks like new problems are ironed out every time a new version is released.

-the latest versions is reported to finally ahve script checking for firefox! (didnt have time to check it out myself yet)
-the webscanner (http scanner) has been buggy and still is, but getting better
    - some incompability problems with some firewalls. most notably outpost it seems. this has to do with the webscanner, which can be turned off.
-proactive defence looking promising but i dont know how to check it out.
-latest build that i tested was very lightweight and fast
-uninstaller cleans up after itself really well (on my system)

I just want to say that I can´t wait for the final Kaspersky AV 2006, it is looking good, more feateres and hopefully also less resource usage. :) Only thing that bothers me a bit is that it seems like NOD32´s heuristics is better in catching unknown malware. I hope KAV will be improved in this area.

well ill be more than glad if KAV's new http scanner can scan archives in realtime like NOD32. heuristics would be nice but if the new KAV can further improve on cpu and memory usage then itd be a much harder AV to beat.

Can't say that I want much more than what I am already getting from KAV. Possibly a better user interface (I'm still on 4.5) and HTTP scanning. But the product is already so good, insofar as scanning and detection is concerned, I'll be satisfied if it is stable, usable, and continues to maintain the same high level security that it already provides. A better interface will make it more easier to recommend to friends.

So is it safe to be changing from one beta to another by just uninstalling and installing? I changed from KAV PRO 5 to this new beta KAV 6 and was just wondering if it is normal to uninstall and install newer versions or are there special instructions one has to do before changing to a newer beta version.

The release notes are pretty tidy and worth a read. For instance
    1. The product can be installed over the following applications:

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus Lite 4.5 (4.5.0090)
    Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 (5.0.227.0)
    Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro 5.0 (5.0.20)
    Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstation 5.0 (7.4.262.0)

    2. The product can be installed together with the following personal firewalls:
    Kerio
    Mcafee Personal Plus 6.0.6014
    Look 'n' Stop
    Tiny Personal Firewall 6.5.92
    8Signs Firewall 2.2.6
    CHX-I Stateful Firewall
Sygate Personal Firewall Pro (build 2710)*

BUT: Certain Internet access problems are reported when installed with the following personal firewalls:
    BlackIce 3.6
    - a special tool klimsetup.exe needs to be installed (located at the KLIM subfolder)
    ZoneAlarm 5.5
    - special adjustment is needed in ZoneAlarm firewall, look at screenshots at http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=1711&view=findpost&p=11072
    Outpost 2.6, 2.7

    3. In the process of installation the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2006 detects the following products and allows to uninstall them. Side-by-side execution with the products enlisted below may lead to computer functioning deceleration and even to its complete inoperability:

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.5 (v761)
Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8 (v8.1.0.821)
    Symantec Client Security 9 (v9.0.0.33:cool:
    Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional
    Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2005 (11.0.2)
    Norton Internet Security 2005 (8.0.0.64)

    McAfee Desktop Firewall 8.0 (2004)
    McAfee Desktop Firewall 8.5 (2005)
Security Center + McAfee VirusScan Professional v8 (2004)
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (ver 8.0i) (2004)

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005

I uninstall the old version I am using completely before installing the newer version . I also run a defrag and reboot before loading up the new beta. Then run the set up. Thats just me though . Others do things in other ways Im sure .

Thanks, I didn't install the KAV 6 over anything, I had a clean system before. Also I didn't install the intrusion detection nor the process\registry guard. I have PG and Regdefend for thet, don't need the extra popups anyways. It seems to work great along side zonealarm 5.5.094.000 Pro. So far it has caught a few more things off the net than the regular KAV 5 Pro did. So far so good....

:( Update required removal of KAV 5 which uninstalled okay and KAV 6 installed - restart required, then showed that I needed to update.
Attempted to update, my wireless router connection was lost; no update, no Internet, no working KAV - connection only restored with the removal of KAV!

Very same problem experienced upon installation today... Hope this problem-report finds it's way to Kaspersky! :doubt:
