Does McAfee 7 has the same detection as McAfee 9

i have McAfee VirusScan 7.03 with the latest engine from McAfee 4400
my question is Does McAfee 7.03 has the same detection rate as McAfee VirusScan 9?
if deferent, in what aspects?

It uses the same scan engine and the same defs, I would say the detection should be the same.

the reason I am asking is because a friend of mine got an e-mail from IBK with regard of this issue and he said they are different.


i would be grateful if IBK explain more about this issue and what exactly is the difference between them and is this also means that there is difference between McAfee VirusScan 9 and McAfee Enterprise 8i ?

i have got this answer from Cod Green a Moderator at McAfeehelp.com Forum :

( Should be the same if you are running the latest DAT file as well.

It is advised to upgrade to a new version of your antivirus program every 3-4 years or
so. Newer versions are able to work better on newer Operating Systems.)

I am confused is there any difference between the two ? And in any case, are there any known tests comparing them?

Thank you, alien x. Good to see that the problem was solved in the good/cheap way.

E.g.: AFAIK offers 9.0 vs. 7.0 version more options that you can enable. It is like Norton new version where you can for example enable the checkbox to scan also for adware etc.; without that option, it would only use that part of the definitions etc.; so it would not detect exactly the same as the new versions.

I will try to get you an official answer from McAfee about this...

 

McAfee 7 does allow you to scan for Adware/Spyware.

The reason i prefer McAfee 7.03 than McAfee 9.0 are:
1- It is lighter (around 10Mb RAM)
2- Doesn't need ActiveX to get the updates
3-It doesn't have McAfee Shopping Centre
4- Comes with a good simple firewall.

But of course i don't want to compromise detection rates especially that McAfee is N0.1 and even better than Kaspersky in the detection of Windows viruses, macros, worms and scripts for the second year in a row according to av-comparatives.

I am still waiting for experts opinion with regard to the detection rate.

 

The 'potentially unwanted programs' refers to adware, spyware and riskware - so its there all right.
