    Hi,

I like hear your comments about How would be better decision to buy New AV, I used Dr. Web, MKS 2005 ( Arcavir ) and BitDefender Std 8, but now need buy one to My Laptop, In your experinec how should be the best decision considering:

    1.- Low Resources
    2.- Detection Rate.

    Thank you,

Those are all very solid AV's so to me it comes down to two things...
    1) Which one performs most smoothly on your particular system.
(You really need to trial each one indidvidually on your laptop to determine this... if you haven't already)
    2) Personal preference.

    As for your specific question:
Dr Web would be lowest in resources, in my opinion, and Bit Defender probably a little stronger in detection rate.

Don't forget the option of using two programs that compliment each other and are light on resources as an option, too.
For me, I find that Dr Web and BOClean run real nice on my machines.

    KAV is
    1. somewhat light
    2. very good protection
    3. has like the best detecion rates
    4. somewhat good heuristics

I would recommend it for your computer, but thats me :D

Dr.Web, Norman, NOD32, BitDefender and Panda have better heuristics than KAV at the moment.

McAfee is just about the same as KAV, be it heuristics or signatures.

BitDefender is a nice choise... But it's all personal, here are some facts:

    1) Good (or excellent) detection, on both signature and pro-active,
    2) Cheap,
    3) Fast updates,
    4) Good support,
    5) Easy to use,
    6) Nice ram usage (below ~18mb),
    7) Faster scanning then KAV,
    Attractive GUI.

Those are the first 8 thoughts coming up in my mind. With this AV and ZoneAlarm Free as firewall you will be perfectly fine (i'll dump my Netvada though, it keeps on blocking my network, works fine with zonealarm)...

  8. Heuristics/Shmeuristics, the bottom line is that nothing evil EVER gets by KAV!

Talk about a bunch of NONSENSE.. Everytime I collect a new sampleset I find a fairly significant amount that KAV doesn't even detect (Sometimes numbering in the hundreds). Often - more often than not in fact - Dr.Web and NOD32 pick them up with pure heuristics.

Saying nothing ever gets by KAV means you have a false sense of security, and worse, others might be influenced into that same false sense of security. ;-)

  11. You have a right to your opinion - no matter how demeaning it is! My comment was based on actual AV experiences and not on some contrived (and unspecified) 'sampleset'. How about giving us something substantial/meaningful that shows KAV is anything but one of the very best AVs available!

I say get KAV for the best protection available. Dr.Web if you want a good AV that's incredibly light on resources.

They all have free trials so try them all for a few weeks.

I have been using Dr.Web for the last year and you really don't notice it's there. Unfortunately it didn't notice the Zapchast Trojan yesterday so I'll be swapping AVs again when my 12 months are up :)

Hey sard, did you submit it to the Dr.Web crew for analysis? If not could you do so for the rest of us Dr.Web users?

    Thanks,
    NAMOR

I scanned it with jotti's website (I think all the venders get sent the samples from there) then I scanned it with the one on the Dr.Web website so they should have a copy now.
