The Ultimate Protection

Am running Nod 32 beta,Giant,Winpatrol and Vet,as backup on demand scanner.I tried to reinstall Kaspersky as a second on demand scanner (8 months legit liscence left before I found about ADS),well completely messed up my pc,p4,3ghz,1gram,120 ghd and startup scans are still a pain,even when disabled.

No way out for some but my 10 gig partition containing four ghost images put my pc back exactly how it was before the installation of KAS and conflicts which was perfect.

So I would have to say that imaging software,with daily backups,Ghost,Acronis and others would have to be the ultimate in security.

 

maybe, but its only like a (afterwards) cure, proper virus and firewall protection (etc) offers preventative security.

 

WSFuser is right Franklin. But one primary antvirus program on your system followed by a secondary one is probably enough in the antivirus area. If you want, try using some on line scanners and you won,t be tying up resources. Oh and add a router even if you have only a single PC.

 

and dont forget processguard. the free version is good and the paid version is better still.

Unfortuately, there doesn't appear to be an Ultimate Protection.

I tried out Acronis and Ghost (current online version), and on my system they were worse than a disastor. The older Ghost 2003 worked fine , but I ended up using Image for DOS from Terabyte Unlimited. Very reliable, but it takes a while to backup, so daily backups are not feasible.

But even daily backups (or rollbacks like DeepFreeze), still leave you vulnerable to intra-day infections. So, it is as important to have good defenses whether or not you have image backups or rollbacks.

I don't like taking chances, so I have an image copy, as well as KAV, Ewido, ProcessGuard, WormGuard, and RegDefend. Ewido is probably not necessary, but I like the redundancy.

The closest you will get to Ultimate Protection is operating in a limited User account in WinXP (or 2K). You can then forget all the other stuff, unless you like installing obviously suspicious software. Some people apparently do like it.
