Hi All, I don't use ms office but I do use software602 as my office suite. Software602 can save documents and read documents as if they were created by ms office. For the most part I use software602 internally on my computer to create docs. Can I disable DMON without risking my security and doesn't AMON keep your file system secure? Thanks, Jaws
I don't use office documents and instead, use readers. I have DMON off. AMON is the resident scanner and as such, is responsible for keeping viruses at bay on your hard drive.
Hi Ron, Thank you. It seems to me as if DMON isn't really necessary if AMON protects your files on your hard drive. But what do I know. I'm sure ESET knows what they're doing. Regards, Jaws
G'day Jaws, Just to clarify, DMON is utilised by Microsoft Office 2003/XP (and maybe 2000?). When MS Office opens a file it calls DMON to scan the file. Ronjor is correct, AMON should protect you fine, and Software602 probably doesn't understand the programming hooks required to scan with DMON anyway (I suspect that a Microsoft "invention"). Also, if you have Outlook installed, but you are not using it, the you probably have "EMON" running, which also is not used by anything other than Outlook. Other mail clients are protected by IMON, which scans network connections (POP3 HTTP etc). So long as you have AMON and IMON running as well, you will be fine. Cheers Ben.
