there is no cynical mode smilie :) probably they first finished the crown jewel which is Outpost...now they will have time to fix a few things like database and stuff I guess.

I am not constantly cynical Edwin...:)

Another possibility is that Agnitum will cooperate with Star-Force...maybe they will see a function for Tauscan in it? just guessing of course.

Sincere questions: Is Tauscan worthy of praise? More specifically, how does it stack up in comparison with Trojan Hunter, BOClean, & The Cleaner?

I'm not the best person to ask about anti-trojan performance, but Tauscan's signature updates have tended to be monthly, the scanner has not been updated for over a year (despite my reporting a bug in Jan 2004 where the memory scanner would be closed and not restarted during an update) and Tauscan is no longer mentioned on Agnitum's home page. Draw your own conclusions...

Although I have Tauscan installed on my W98SE machine and I post sometimes updates for it, I don't run it resident and I don't do very often a scan with it.
In no way I would want to rely on it.
My most important AT's are BOClean and TDS-3.

    Just my 2 cents ;)

I tried it two years ago...I only remembered the long on demand scan...

but the there haven't been this much updates for two years now...I guess we'll see a program update in 2005.

Thanx to P2K for the info and Jan for sharing experiences.

    Take care

  12. installed tauscan on a new computer running xp an after five days of trying still can not totally uninstall tauscan. never had this problem in past?
No, would not purchase this program even if it were someday/year improved.

    Fellow Creatures,
Was offered it at a big discount after purchase of OutPost Pro and after taking online survey from Agnitum....I passed it up, why bother when you have BoClean. ;)

If you are looking for assistance, how about some details of the exact symptoms? (e.g. do you get an error on uninstalling, are there left-over files/registry entries, etc).

That is a problem that more Anti Trojan Programs have ...

    ;)

If you want to call that a problem.....

And ...eh... why was it for Tauscan today the day to add definitions (according to their own info) for, for example, the following SubSeven Trojans:
SubSeven Version 2.1 defcon, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.1 muie, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.1 muie.a, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.1.4.a, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.1.a, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.1.b, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.1.c, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.1.f, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version 2.2.b2, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version pac, type Remote Access
SubSeven Version pswch, type Remote Access

    Regards,
Jan (licenced user of TDS-3, BOClean, TrojanHunter, The Cleaner, Tauscan).

Don't misunderstand me, i haven't used TAUSCAN meself..
i am a licenced user TDS-3, BOClean,Ewido, A2, Kaspersky etc. and about 50 other Anti Malware tools (testing these is part to my job).

But in General, i must say that i do think, that AV upgrades are faster then
AT. And perhaps this should be just the other way around.

(i am not discussing updates/sigs here).

After all the tests i've did the last years, i must say i am not impressed of most specific-anti trojan scanners if you compare those with the top AV's.

And it is rather sad, that if you have a good AV, and a specific AT,
that your AV finds the trojans that your AT misses.
But never the other way around.

(of course we've tested without the AV as well).

But i am curious to learn some more about TAUSCAN here ...

Very insightful comment. Educational even. No doubt it took lots of study to arrive at this conclusion. It's a shame he didn't see fit to share any data about his no doubt extensive use & research of Tauscan. ;)

Nothing really against Tauscan, but I don't know why one would use it when there are many other better established and supported ATs availible at a similar price.
