IMON kills my ADSL connection

NOD32 2.50.19 (trial). Installed without IMON, otherwise no Internet connection. But as soon as I enable IMON, connection is lost...

If you find that your internet connection has been broken, please run Winsock XP Fix.


OR


Proceed with the following to delete the corrupted registry keys, and then reinstall the TCP/IP protocol.


Step 1. Delete the corrupted registry keys

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

3. In Registry Editor, locate the following keys, right-click each key, and then click Delete:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

4. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

NOTE: Restart the computer after you delete the Winsock keys. Doing so causes the Windows XP operating system to create new shell entries for those two keys. If you do not restart the computer after you delete the Winsock keys, the next step does not work correctly.



Step 2. Install TCP/IP

1. Right-click the network connection, and then click Properties.

2. Click Install.

3. Click Protocol, and then click Add.

4. Click Have Disk.

5. Type C:\Windows\inf, and then click OK.

6. On the list of available protocols, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.

7. Restart the computer.

 

Didn't you have Norton AV installed previously?

No, still no connection

No, but I've been playing lately (Installing/Removing/Reinstalling etc..) with cFosSpeed, NetLimiter and Google Desktop Search. I should have thought of cleaning up the mess.

My hat down for your prompt and helpful replies.

 

...but i'm still experiencing problem working with both IMON and a global socksifier like Proxycap or the Permeo Security Driver. Both appear to work at Winsock level, and when installed, Imon does not work. If I check 'automatically detect and repair network' in IMON, my connection dies. I have to use the Winsock fix, but then the socksifier does not work.

 

I had the same problem with NOD 32 after a fresh instal !
IMON was killing my connection !
I think it has something to do with Steganos internet anonym.

 

That Steganos IA is a terrible program! I had inslalled it too and when it started...woosh...internet gone...

It is de-installed and I will never use it again!

 

Uninstalled Steganos IA , repaired Winsock , and everything seems to be O.K. now . Thank you very much !

 

Hi, just posting to say I had a similar problem.

After installing netlimiter my connection died, and my windows GUI locked up.

upon a reboot explorer.exe loaded incredibly slowly (no cpu usage, but took 10-20mins to unfreeze). NOD32, internet connection, access to hard drives ... all dead.

Anyway Stephanos fix with uninstalling + reinstalling TCP/IP fixed the problem.

It either stemmed from NOD32 having problems with Netlimiter, or possibly and old version of xfire conflicting with netlimiter (having looked at xfire's forums it appears netlimiter has real difficulties with xfire, or visa versa).
