Password Management Software

I think it would be interesting to hear what everyone is using for Password Management. I have used, "Password Safe" and tried a couple of others over the years, but things are getting out of hand on my end. I would like to see if there is something new out there to try. I think it would be interesting to see how everyone manages passwords for sites, email, shareware, etc.

I'll mention one I'm looking at: I have organized my projects for a long time using Tex Notes from GemX:

It's a superb little information management program. They have a new product, with a very similar user interface called "GuardMax" for Password Management. I started to go ahead and buy it and then I decided against it until I hear what people here are using. No telling what I might be missing out on!

I use RoboForm, both for form filling and for password management:

You can either choose whether to encrypt a password individually, or to encrypt all by default.

It can fill out passwords automatically if you so desire, and even log you into a site without any intervention on your part

Your choice.

I love this applicatin. It's very smart indeed.

You might want to give this one a look. I dl it a few months ago just to take a look and it is still with me.

They have a "Lite" freeware version that is limited only by the number of entries (25) per file so will give you a good flavor of the app.

In the meantime, I'm going to look at the one in your link!

Thank you for directing me to Password Agent. I had checked out some from Web Attack and none struck my fancy. After I saw your post and went to the site I saw this was from Moon Software. Well, small world, I use Moon's "Backup Magic" as my primary backup program! It's the easiest backup program I've ever used. I've had IT about a year or so. I downloaded Password Agent and really like it a lot. If you went to the GemX site, you will be surprised how similar they are in structure - using the groupings, folders, subfolders, etc.

Pretty neat little app, huh. I have to curb my exuberence when suggesting an app I *really* like 'cause I have a tendency to sound like I work in marketing.

Yes, I did notice what seems to be only a visual difference between the two. The GemX app appears to have a few more features and offers more algos (only two additional that I would be interested in) but the two apps are VERY similar. I guess a good idea is a good idea! I tend to prefer simplicity in my crypto apps, not more features. Seems the more an app can do, the more might go wrong. I do like the password within a password, though. I just may have to give the GemX app a test drive. Like you said, you never know what you might be missing. I can tell you I have had NO problems with PA. The Ringdoll 256 (well, that's the way it *should* be spelled ) is plenty strong enough for my needs. I'm glad you like it.

I note with interest your comments about Moon's backup util. I use a combo of NTBackup (the XP version is nice - better than W2k) and Drive Image 2002. I am very satisfied with the combo but am always looking.

I actually use two freeware shell extensions by MoonSoftware:

CopyUrl and FileTargets. Very nice!

And I did use to have Password Agent as well, until I started using RoboForm.

I figured, why use two applications, when only one will do, and very capably at that.

 

It seems like a few of us are on the same wavelength - given that Moon Software is such a small company. I, too, use FileTargets and Phil, I also compliment my "Backup Magic" regimen with Drive Image 2002!

I started using the same program Tony has(Roboform)after I dumped the evil reptile!(Gator)I got "hooked" on Roboform!It really is an intelligent program.

 

I decided to try Password Agent.
Little more to offer than Access manager. Think I'll go with it for a while.

 

Must be that "great minds" thing!

Sorry for such a late post in this thread but I have only just been directed here via another.

I have been using Password Manager by Steganos

It is very easy to use and it also grades your passwords / generates passwords of a given strength. Not sure how good it is being from a none crypto background so perhaps you guys who have the experience can shed some light on it.

I find it quite useful I must say as the amount of passwords I have accumulated nowadays is quite ridiculous.

Wilders.org has been an amazing source of information in the short time since I discovered it.

Hello Meneer! I don't remember you before - so I am assuming you are new to Wilders! Welcome!!

There is a big problem with Whisper. This program is a Password Manager, but offers only password protection for the program itself! It is absolutely critical that a Password Manager employ encryption. And not just any encryption; but good, solid, strong encryption using a well-known algorithm.

Thanks for adding to the discussion and the link. It actually did good by giving us a chance to talk about the importance of encryption in your Password Management tool. Inside that little .dat file is the key to all of your privacy and secrets. Once inside, a cracker has everything. It's critical that this piece of software be a veritable fortress.

Password Agent is a very good tool. Phil (in the post above) first recommended the program to me and I was using something very similar, but the one thing these two programs have in common: strong encryption.

Another that's good: Password Safe from CounterPane - organization is horrible though. But, using Password Safe, you can feel secure, it utilizes Blowfish from the noted cryptographer, Bruce Schneier, himself.
