    From the help file.

EMON (E-mail MONitor) provides scanning of incoming and outgoing email in Microsoft Outlook as well as in Microsoft Exchange Extension-compliant mail clients.

NOTE: If your mail client does not comply with Microsoft Exchange Extension, the EMON icon will not appear in the NOD32 Control Center.

I'm pretty sure that EMON is being installed by default now. I think the help file is out of date.

I'll ask someone from Eset to confirm this...

    Cheers :D

I would assume that this part remains true.

I checked on the internet...It seems Eudora to be compatible with Microsoft Exchange...

How could I thus check if EMON is active with Eudora 6.2 ?

    Thanks for your replies

Eudora is a POP3 client, right? IMON handles that, not EMON.

My understanding is that Eudora 6.2.1 supports Simple MAPI, but not Extended MAPI. Here is an article from Microsoft explaining the difference:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q200018/

If I read this correctly, Simple MAPI allows Eudora to send and receive messages. For example, the "File --> Send to" command uses Simple MAPI calls, so you can tell Word to e-mail files using Eudora.

However, Extended MAPI (or just plain "MAPI") gives more control over messaging, such as control over the Inbox, control over particular messages, etc. I believe that this is what is required for EMON to work.

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong, but this is how I understand it.

Thank you for your replies. Sorry buy the way but I did not understand it clearly.

Seems that Eudora does not allow Emon's functions to work fully ? Sad...

A naive question: Since Eset never does things by random....Why did they just allow EMON to work with outlook ?

Allow most of the users to exploit fully the last NOD version is the reply?

Is Outlook the most extended mail software in the market today o_O? What about the others ?

Frustrating somehow...... I don't think Emon has driven-up Nod's price but offering something new for some users only sounds strange to me especially when the producer is ESET ......!

I think it is because Outlook is one of the few mail clients that supports full Extended MAPI. Extended MAPI gives a set of instructions that allows 3rd party programs to manage mailboxes and individual messages.

Both Eudora and Outlook Express support only Simple MAPI, which does not give this functionality. Theoretically, I suppose it could be possible to scan individual messages in other programs, but then you would probably need a specific module tailored for each program.

I have a stand alone home computer with Outlook as the email program. I am behind a router and am not part of a network. I use PoP3. Emon is installed apparently by default. Under Emon setup I see outgoing email is checked off to be scanned. Does this mean that my outgoing email is now being checked? If so is it being stamped.

Hi. I just sent a email and went to the Sent Items folder and the email I sent did not show a stamp? I use Outlook not Outlook Express.

I sent a email from my home email address to my work place address. To see if the outgoing email would be checked by EMON and stamped. When I was at work later I checked the email I had received from home and it was not stamped. Blackspear seemed to be of the opinion that it would be if I was using Outlook, which I am. EMON setup indicates outgoing email is to be scanned. The status window which comes up when EMON is selected in Control Panel shows some files(4) have been scanned but what are they? It would appear that IMON is still handeling all email.

Thank you very much. I know users of AVG for example find great comfort in these little stamps at the end of their emails. Although I am sure NOD is better. Also more people who receive our emails would enquire about NOD. I know several people who started to use AVG just from seeing the stamps certifying the email was scanned and nothing found. Perhaps the outgoing email stamp should be default as well as incoming.

I don't have Outlook, I do have other Office 2003 programs (Word, Excel, Power Point) but not Outlook, I put a big red X on Outlook when installing Office so I am very sure that no Outlook components are loaded in my system.

When I installed 2.12 NOD32 Control Center DIDN'T have EMON anywhere.

The big question that I have after upgrading to 2.5 from 2.12 is:

Why is EMON present AND ENABLED by default?

I don't understand why ESET is installing AND ACTIVATING this by default if it's doing nothing but eat resources. I can of course disable it but why it was installed in the first place if I don't use Outlook?

I gratefuly wait for an answer that can give some light about this. If EMON had been updated to work with other clients than Outlook I could understand this, but it isn't so. I am totally confused. IMO it is a mistake to install this component and activate it by default if you don't need it.

    Thank you.

Problem is, I have also seen similar stamps on spam viruses *pretending* to be clean. It can cut both ways.

I understand your point. But it's gettting AVG a lot of business as people take a liking to their free version and move to the paid.

Go into regedit, search for EMON and delete it if you don't want it. I did it and no problemo :)

Hint: first turn of the taskbar monitor!

I had a problemo in that the NOD32 Event Log then recorded a slew of errors regarding EMON, as if it was confused by the missing Registry entries even though EMON had previously been disabled. I eventually simply restored those entries instead of putting up with those errors.

I use Microsoft Outlook 2003 as my email client, but only in Internet-only mode. I do not use an Exchange server. I want EMON to scan my mail in Outlook 2003 and place a stamp at the end.

I do NOT use a third-party email client. Nevertheless, IMON scans my email within Microsoft Outlook 2003, and places a stamp at the end of my email.

EMON also places a stamp at the end of my email. I do not want both modules placing a stamp at the end of my email sent and received in Microsoft Outlook. I prefer to have a stamp from EMON only at the end of my email.

Right now, I have turned off the EMON stamping. How do I turn off IMON stamping instead?

Is it really necessary to have both modules scanning my email? If not, how do I turn off scanning by IMON? I DO want IMON scanning my downloads and webmail. I just don't want it scanning and stamping my Outlook 2003 email.
