    Hello everyone :D

I'm in a particularly good mood today. I study in one of the schools with the toughest syllabi in our country. Yesterday, the results were declared, and I was quite happy.....

When it comes to the normal subjects - Mathematics, Science, Social etc. I'm a B-grade student.

However, this time, I got an 89 in computer - Highest in the entire 8th grade of my school!!!! :D:D

    Last year = 85

    The year before = 88

We were taught MS-Office, BASIC programming (most of it was this) and Windows operation.

I already knew most of this because I took my first ever computer class at the age of 8, and I scored an 88% the first time, and a 96% the next year :D

The point of starting this thread is simply to ask whether an 89% is good enough? o_O

    Thanks all :D

<And the best part is, I hardly studied even an hour for this :D>

It's not all that bad, especially if it was the best in the eighth grade ;)

congrats! keep in mind that you have a title to defend next year now. keep up the good work! when i was in the 8th grade 89% was damn good, and it still leaves room for you to improve.

Yes, I do realise I still need to improve :)

In ninth grade its all gonna be about the C language, where I could very well have an edge, because of a peculiar behavior exhibited by me. You see, seventh grade had some VERY low level BASIC programming, but I ended up fifth place then :(

In eighth grade, the BASIC programming was more complex, which is exactly why I managed to get out ahead. Dunno why, but I do better as complexity increases :doubt:

C is gonna be more complex than BASIC you know ;)

    BIG Congrats Firecat !!!!!

Be proud of yourself my friend ! :D

It definitely sounds very good to me :D

Well, I know not exactly how things are rated with regards to this in your country.
But if I "translate" it in the right way to how things were done in my country, then on a scale of 1-10 you got a 9 !!! :D

    Most warmest regards,
    Jan.

I suppose you can't really complain at your exam results if you only 'knocked' yourself out studying for an hour on that particular subject.....

    Wouldn't YOU like to know?
    hmm...
    congrats!

but once again... err.. my opinion is different [this is getting quite old, isn't it].

You can look at it in two ways... What do you care more for?
    1. Getting better grades and retaining some of the knowledge out of the precious little that you understood? [Do this if you wanna go into a B.S./B.Sc. styled degree]
    2. Getting above average grades, and being thoroughly thorough about what you know... knowing inside out the subjects of your field. If I'm not mistaken, IIT's entrance exam is really tough, and the way to get selected into a good engineering college in your nick of the woods is by not just knowing Physics and chemistry and maths, but also by applying logical skills to the facts to solve problems in 'entrance exams'... each univ has it's own, ain't it?

I learnt rather late not to rely on past laurels... Actually... I forgot t and learnt it rather late.... the past three years have been a criminal waste and I'm busy rectifying the situation.

So my advice is :: keep your marks ABOVE 85%, and your knowledge level should be comparableto the people at least one grade above you.
That part is easy... 'coz the syllabi of our seniors looks really attractive, and our own seems boring and childish

    Rgds.

:D Ah my young friend, grades never meant that much to me. It was more impressive if the individual could put their knowledge to use. If you use that criteria as the measure, you do very well indeed.

    Thanks

Good job, Firecat. The key in this situation is to ask yourself this question: Did I do my very best? If yes be happy. But never stop attempting to improve. The good news is you can continue to move forward to the next level. Pitty the poor student who has done his best but cannot make the grade and is in trouble and can not advance. See what I mean. But for you way to go and be happy enjoy your success and it will pump you up for future challenges. ;)
