Blue screen of death error - can't find what code means

Hi,

On bootup I got the blue screen of death and wrote down the first part of the error.

It was Oxff83aed couldn't be written in memory location (I didn't write this part down.)

I searched google and microsoft for the oxff83aed but nothing comes up. I was able to get the computer running after this. this is the 2nd time this happened.

I have Windows XP, NOD32, and zone alarm.

Any help would be appreciated.

BSOD if it reads: this is the first time you have seen etc. etc.
I had this problem before. in my case the solution was to updare drivers. ALL DRIVERS.

Let me get back to you on that. It sounds like both fans are going. I can feel air from the power fan. I wouldn't know how to reseat the ram.

Since this is the 2nd blue screen I want to ask you something. The first time it just flashed by and restarted. I went into that link you gave me and showed me how to not have the sys auto restart, but I noticed that error files are saved, and I'd like to find out what the original error message was. How can I look in that error file. It was under my computer, properties, advanced, and save log. Where would I find that log is my question.

To start Dr.Watson, the diagnostic tool,

1)Click Start--->Run
2)In the box type 'drwatson' without the quotes.

Hope that helped

You can alse see the error log. Click Start-->Help and Support, and look around the screen you now see for an option that says something like "use tools to fix problems..."

There you should find the error log under 'Advanced System Diagnostics'.

Hi,

I checked the fans and the memory. I've been getting 2 types of bsod errors.

One is irql not less than equal

and the second is stop 0x00000023 volsnap.sys

I reinstalled my zone alarm since the blue screens started after a problem with zone alarm.

I have winxp 1st version

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi,

On recieving the errors, I chose the send report to microsoft, and one of their message was that firewalls have drivers. So I reinstalled zone alarm and haven't had the bsod since. Not sure if that was it or not, but been 3 days so far so good. Just thought I'd let you know.

Improper placement of memory modules can also cuase BSODs with applications.

 

Dump 'Zone Alarm' completely from your system and D/Load 'Agnitum Outpost' (Free, just Google for it) or any other Firewall for that matter, and in my experience your troubles will be over........
