    The only thing keeping me from really considering BD8 Standard is its enormous RAM usage. Has that changed at all with the new technology?

    I dont think so.

    If memory usage of BD8 is less than 55MB I'll be glad to take it :)

    Memory usage really doesnt matter for me with my 1GB of RAM :D

    The problem is, I'm being charged about USD 55 in my country for NOD. I questioned them about that and they say it is Eset who raised the prices. I kinda dont believe that reseller on that.

    But due to that, I'll be hard-pressed to buy NOD, since that price is a bit out of my reach.

    I purchased BitDefender 8 Standard and it was running flawlessly on my computer until today. For some reason the GUI would open on startup and reboots. I couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong. I finally tried their Live Assistant for the first time. I was in contact with Sim. She was very helpful. First she thought it might be an update problem. She had me update and reboot. Tried that, and problem was still there. I went to Live Assistant again. This time Sim had me copy and paste the .ini files to the BitDefender folder. She thought they might be corrupted. I did what she said and rebooted and no more GUI pop up at start up and reboots.

    I guess what I'm trying to say is, that not only does BitDefender run smoothly on my computer, but their tech support is very helpful. I for one think that good tech support is a very big plus when it comes to choosing any type of software, especially and AV. So far I am very happy with BitDefender. :D

    Try another reseller and also ask about student discounts.

    Cheers :D

    Yup. I've talked to Sim at least five times, and I know the support is very good :)

    @Blackspear: Thanks - I'll try that :)

    you know what?
    I tried installing BD at least 5 times on my PC [different software setup each time] and it never ever worked for more than 2 days.
    So I won't trust BD anytime soon...

    Does BD Free implement HIVE [the new heuristics]??

    I'll try to find out. My guess is, if GDATA AVK will have it, so will BD Free edition.

    Ack what a rip off, it's only 39 bucks..and us resellers only get charged 70% of that when we resell it.

    And less than 1/2 the memory usage (around 16 megs), and it's the first antivirus I've used where I don't have to shut down real time protection when I'm playing very system intensive online games, others would cause too much system performance hit. Even with 3.4GHz, 1.5 gigs of RAM, and a 256 meg Radeon card..games like Battlefield Vietnam love all the freedom they can get.
