OK, I'll give it a stab.

Tiny >5 is a sandbox cum firewall application. It combines a rule-based firewall with a 'sandbox' so that the Tiny user can potentially have full control over what processes are started, spawned (by other applications), allowed to inject code into other apps and have access to the net. As such, viruses and trojans will have a less likely chance of infecting your PC.

As such, this almost total control is its biggest disadvantage. You should be willing to experiment with tweaking both the firewall (which is quite easy once you understand the rulesets of Tiny2/Kerio2 given by Blitzen Zeus) and the sandbox (which is more difficult, though not as difficult as one would expect since as a newbie the app actually prompts you a lot)

Suprisingly, 6.5 doesn't feel as slow as 6.014 on my Intel 1.7A Mhz with 768MB RAM. However, it does take up a fair bit of RAM, 39MB on my AMD64.

    bandar -

Read here for the features of Tiny firewell:
    http://www.tinysoftware.com/home/tiny2?s=5375286922905846779A0&&pg=content05&an=tf6_support

You might also want to read this thread:

You should have found these two links before you asked the question, but it seems that you hadn't:). From this fact, I think that you'd better stay away from Tiny (TINY is just a nightmare for those who are looking for an easy answer).

    Bandar,

You need to go to their forum to get help on how to set up Tiny. There was one example given by wterrell (How to correctly configure TF2005 for beginners) which was quite good - a Bottom Up process starting with Segregation of Apps. However, it is quite tedious and I haven't gotten the courage (nor time) to do that. Me, I have always started out with the Top Down process - securing my defences against outside attacks first, before looking at how the other apps interact with Windows.

If you are going to try out tiny REMEMBER! Tinys default is to allow all access unless the rules prohibit it!

Also, print out these registry tweaks before you install tiny, just in case lol

Warning: Turning on devces protection could cause in some rare cases problems during system boot. If this occurs, please boot into Safe Mode and set the existing value DeviceHook to zero in the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Srevices\KmxSbx key.

Starting TF with the security modules disabled

Enabling Windows Security guards and using incorrect rules on System Processes may lead to the system instability and or the comp uter may not boot properly after restart because you may have disable access of system process to its vital resources. If you would experience difficulties during the boot and could not logon you must follow the steps below.

    1. reboot into Safe Mode
    2. run Start -> Run and type regedit
    3. go to HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/KmxAgent/Parameters and SecurityEnabled key to 0
    4. Reboot (you will notice that TF icon is gray - security was disabled
    5. Run Admin tool and delete conflicting tool. If you are unsure restore the default configuration.

    Emergency Uninstallation

On a very rare occasion your Windows may not start correctly or at all. This may occur if combining several firewalls together or if your application or devices have drivers from less experienced software developer.

In case you cannot start your windows, follow this uninstallation procedure:
    1. reboot into Safe Mode
    2. delete system32\drivers\kmxcfg.u2k
    3. run Services control applet (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools) and set Startup type (in properties) to 'Disabled' for the following services:

    FW Configuration Interpreter

    FW Event Manager

    FW Policy Manager
reboot normally and remove TF using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel

Im using tpf2005-pro, so im not sure about the standard version.

I think it is kind of scary that Tiny has a default mode of no protection. The only other firewall that does this is CHX-1, but they provide a warning pretty close to the top (or at the start) of their documentation. I don't know where Tiny keeps this gem of information hidden, but I did not see it in an obvious place in their web based documentation. Then again, I am quite feed up with security packages called firewalls that do a lot of things other than make sure that unsolicited connections are kept out.
