Just tried today to update Nod after entering my password several times without luck.
I was forced to get out my confirmation Email that i received when i bought Nod that has my password info on it just to make sure the username didnt get changed by accident and re-entering the password reading it from the email to make sure i was right in typing it in. Which i was.

Got to looking at the email and it was dated Jan 17 2002.
I assume that my subscription has run out.
If so, shouldnt i have been sent a email from eset that, it would be running out and i need to renew? Maybe this is not their policy, I think it should be.
If i hadnt got to looking at that email or if a person had thrown it out, how would you know that was what the problem was. Creating unecessary work at eset trying to answer emails because people cant get their program to update only because the subscription has run out, but they dont know it.
I dont know, maybe im being to harsh, but it seems to me that eset should send out a email or something to the fact that your subscription is running out. Know to that they have been busy with trying to get the new build out.
Now that it has run out, and i didnt renew before it ran out i suppose that means that now i cant get the discount price for renewal.
I love Nod, would like to stick with it but it looks like i need to renew, so now whats the procedure.?

    Phazor,

One question: did you by any chance changed ISP/ email address? Since Eset does inform by email in time in case of expiration, this is the most likely explanation.

If this is the case, we might help you out here ;).

    regards.

I guess you will still have the renew price, as they know you are one of their customer, because you will keep the same login.

That would be unfair if they do not, and I don't think Eset staff is unfair :)

    Am I wrong ? :)

Although email is arguably more reliable than snail mail, there is no guarantee that it will ever be delivered. We send and receive thousands of emails each month, and I have yet to see a month in which a few did not vanish without a trace.

You still get the renewal price. (Renewals date from the expiry of the previous license ... so 3-4 months after expiry it becomes uneconomical to renew.)

    Oh really ? I think it's unfair :)

Renewal should start the day we renew. I had object desktop, a windows enhancement, and even if we renew 6 months later we get the renew price and the renew starts the day we renew, for one more year :)

But it doesnt matter for me, as I cannot imagine 3 or 4 months without updating virus database, isnt it ? :)

    Hi Phazor,

the Renewal notifications are sent via e-mail - it could happen that some e-mails are not delivered - we apologize for that. If you want to renew - you can do it from this link.

One thing I've noticed is that NOD doesn't itself (as far as I can tell anyway) contain the original issue date of the initial license and/or the date when it expires. (For example, in an "about" section which also indicates the product version.) I've many programs that do so. Some products even contain a "countdown" to the date the license expires ("you have XXX days left on your license" or something like that). And some products also include in this section a link there to click to get the web page where the renewal is available.

At a minimum, having the date of the initial license (and/or the expiration date) available somewhere on the product could be helpful to the user, especially since evidently email notifications are not always reliable for whatever reason. This would seem to be something fairly simple and useful that could be included in the product itself as long as it is evident to the user that it is there.

That may not preclude the use of email notification but at the maximum something contained in the product itself actually could do so. That might be one more feature that could be problematic for some reason or like the NAV nag screen that starts notification so far in advance that it mostly irritates the user. Which is why I suggest including the minimum of date of original license issue and/or, ideally, the date of license expiration.

This will be addressed in the next version. A popup will advise you when your license is due to expire. My personal preference is "14 days before expiry", with a countdown ... nagging you for a month is a bit rude, and less than 14 days may be cutting it a bit fine.

  10. I hope the New release gets released before May, because I use a nag once in a while! :D

Seriously, though, it wouldn't hurt.. I have never renewed before, I have 3 questions...

    1. Can I renew on your Aussie site, or should I use the same site I bought it with?

Can I renew for more than a year, so I REALLY won't forget (I think that's possibleP

    I don't mind a "nag", but I hope it's not "a-la" Symantec..
    "Sigh"...

So do I ... I get calls every day asking 'When will the new version be released ?" :)

    > 1. Can I renew on your Aussie site, or should I use the same site I bought it with?

Normally we don't rape and pillage our partners' territories ... we forward foreign orders to the appropriate distributor ... but since you and I have been Internet friends for a while and you publicly stated that you'd prefer to deal with me, it would be a bit silly from a business point of view to insist that you deal with someone else. :)

    > Can I renew for more than a year, so I REALLY won't forget (I think that's possibleP

Yes ... we have Two Year licenses ... even Three Years if you want one.

    > I don't mind a "nag", but I hope it's not "a-la" Symantec..

You mean you don't like taking new software out of the box, installing it, and reading "Your license will expire in 364 days. Please renew." :)

  12. What 364? They now only give you 90 day free trials now!

I called Dell, because I'm considering buying another laptop very soon, and the sales rep, jeez.. I had to practically spell it word for word.. "I don'tb want one kilobyte of NAV "pre installed on my computer". He tried to talk me out of it..I was persistant. I asked him; "Man, do you work for Syamntec or Dell?". Finally, I was able to pre-order a laptop, with WinXP Professional, and Office Pro, plus I get the original cds for the programs! I did not decide if I want to buy it yet... My company might pay some of it..

    I had to vent out somewhere...LOL :D

We give only 25 days ... but as the old Chinese saying goes, "A free day of NOD32 is better than a free year of PoopScan!" :)
