My experience with Security Suites has been bad. I trialled PC Cillin suite too. Didnt work out for me.
Now I prefer to use software provided by different vendors to keep my system safe.
I am using Avast Pro. It works like a dream. I love the Network Shield and the Webshield features. The detection is good, though it doesnt have a resident heuristics scanner. Heuristics are there for Email scanner only. The interface is good and easy to use. The best part-- real small definition updates.

    Abhi,

Heuristics usually detect lots of false positives, therefore Avast prefers not to use them. After having used Avast for two straight years, I really decided to test it out, had my system scanned with Ewido, A2,F-Secure, Bit Defender free as well as Clam AV, guess what, not a single malware, Trojans or for that matter any other nasties found, so I guess Avast is doing its job mighty well, heuristics or not.

I'm not so sure how true that is...a well designed heuristic engine should not generate that many false positives. Just look at NOD32 or Dr. Web (yes, FPs were an issue in the past with that one, but not anymore I'd say). If Alwil adds a heuristic engine to their resident and on demand scanners outside of just mail, I feel it will be a great improvement.

Still, I reccomend avast! over PC-Cillin any day of the week :)

avast! Mail heuristics might trigger some false positives, but in general,i can say they are 99% effective. Other AVs check only attachements (their code). If it doesn't find any suspicious signatures, file is declared as safe.
Now avast! doesn't do that. It will warn you on every SCR,PIF,EXE file, strange double extensions,iFrames, links, subject and body structure and so on.
It's a bit "improvised",but far from not being effective. And email is usually the first source of new malware.
But ofcourse, this is not the reason not to impliment true heuristics that check file code.

    Fully Agree Man!

If Avast did incorporate a good heuristics scanner, it would do wonders.

    Cheers!

I flat out don't like the firewall, the antispyware component is untrustworthy in my experiences, and detection leaves a lot to be desired, especially considering that Trend is one of the big three AV companies. That being said, it is still a decent choice for a certain breed of users. I just would reccomend avast! over it.

avast over the other any day. again as said i dont like "packages" most of these suites have terrible firewalls. they are lackluster at best. probably the best built in firewall is in panda internet security, the firewall is sygate. but panda is so buggy still i will not use it. i do like thier av not better than nod but i do like it.
tried out pc cillan and did not have it on for more than a few hours and got rid of it. didnt really have anything good to say.
i am again as stated a person who likes a program that meats a certain need. a good stand alone firewall for example.
i hav not seen any suites that really offer this execpt maybe mcafee. but thats a huge program with way to many resources issues for me. but for a all in one type deal thats the way i would go at least until kav 2006 if fully released

I too have tried PC-cillin and was not too impressed with it. Prior to that I had tried them all, Mcaffe, Avast, AVG, and Norton.

The best combination in my experience has been Nod32, as my AV, along with Look N Stop as my firewall. They have been very reliable, and I have not encountered a virus, or intrusion for the last three years. The current Beta of Nod32 has been shown to be a very good AV.

Suggest you trial it as a free download, and stay away from the Suite software. It is far better to use an individual application for your AV, Firewall, and Trojan programs.

    Good Luck!!! :D
