The problem arises if you restart your computer after running the program once and don't run it the 2nd time (before restarting) to remove it.

That reg fix should work fine. Dont worry, Shell extension bugs like that occur in quite a few developing AV's - and since there are not too many people on the staff right now (how many are there anyway o_O) it does take some time. Please help the developer if you try out the product by submitting bug reports and malware samples.

Who knows? It *might* turn out to be a great AV someday ;)

And no, I am in no way involved with the development of this AV.

Thanks, man. You're a life saver. It worked! :)

Everything appears to be back to normal again.

I was able to launch Total Uninstall and get rid of the offending application completely. It's gone. History.

    Jeeze!

Labrie it is a brand new project, a beginning. Warning Information has now been added to the first post advising of possible issues.

    Cheers

Currently this program seems to be dangerous crap.
BTW, isn't/wasn't AndrewB a trojan author? (I am not joking).
    Take care...

    Hi,

I've tried the old version at the end of 2004 and also the Rundll FWB method and i just hope that Andrew has chosen definitively the defense side .
Agree with IBK : the Andrew's site is well known for his trojan Assassin.
That's why we some cautions are perhaps necessary.

    Regards

    AndrewB,
Have you thought about hosting your project on Sourceforge ?

If you really have a good intention of helping people with this AV then I whole-heartedly recommend you to go on, full spead ahead :)

You seem like a nice guy, so I'll trust you for now :)

Firstly i would like to apologize to people who have had fatal problems with this software. It was not intentional, I did however state in the opening post that this was in first version AND i was looking for testers for this project.

Secondly i would just like to confirm this:

I wrote Assasin which was later taken out of public circulation (due to obvious reasons).

Thirdly this software isnt backdoored! - For this very reason im releasing sourcecode to these projects so people can analyse / compile the code for themselves. (if you cant code then im sure someone who can, can confirm that the release is indeed genuine).

When my webservers ftp comes back online ill be adding the .reg fix to the download section for people who have had problems, to download.

Thank you everyone for your comments so far, ill look carefully into the problems people have had and try to fix them for the next version.

    Andrew

Contact Ikarus-Software to report them that they detect in heuristic.exe something (according to VirusTotal); they will then maybe fix it soon:
    Ikarus 2.32 04.15.2005 Backdoor.Win32.HacDef.084

The reason is almost for sure the included Aphex's Hook stuff.

You don't need to scan - if it would be malicious i would have taken off this thread already. THIS VERSION is clean. Of course i cannot comment on further versions - cuz i do not know them yet - this means not that i suspect him to include something nasty, cuz not everybody will compile it by himself. Beside of the problems which have been reported there is nothing 'dangerous'. If it is a useful application - well i stay away from making any comment.

Just to be sure I got my Windows XP back to normal, the LOM heuristic scanner doesn't modify any file association settings in the Windows Registry other than:

    .BAT file association
    .COM file association
    .EXE file association
    .SCR file assocation

Right? I hope so... I loaded the fixes for all these file associations at Doug Knox' File Association Fixes
