Which is your preferred Web Search Engine?

Which one of the following is your favourite search engine on the internet?

 

I have up to now always used Google, but very recently have had great success with Blinkx. Mim

 

Google delivers quite a few sponsored results. Thats not asked for, I guess.

Having tried them all, I still find that Google gives me the best results. I like the 'Cached results' feature, Google Groups search, the large number of different tools, advanced search operators, and so on.

Have a look at the Google Guide - http://www.googleguide.com/toc.html It really makes you aware of the power of this search engine.

That said, I sometimes also use Ixquick Metasearch as an alternative alongside Google. Using alternative search engines, it will often come up with a couple of different results.

 

Google is one of the best search engines I've used so far. No other search engine beats google.

 

Yes, people can just ignore and don't click on those sponsored results.

 

www.mamma.com seems an interesting alternative...

 

It doesn't search as many pages as Google and others.

Take for example a baddie I've been searching instances of earlier today:

Try www.rediff.com search...very effective!

I tried AllTheWeb.com for a while but gave in that Google was best.

 

In fact, and perhaps surprisingly, IMHO MSN Websearch is really the best of the rest: http://search.msn.com/

It has greatly improved in recent times, searching an enormous amount of web pages. It;s fast as well.

Of course you could still go for Ixquick Metasearch: MSN is one of the Search Engines it queries...

... and it queries AllTheWeb as well...

 

My favorite doesn't really count, because it's not an engine as such. But Dogpile is a handy multi-engine tool, and you can see the results either as one master list sorted by pertinence, or sorted by search engine.

 

I use Copernic Agent which searches the search engines, gives you a summary of results and if any of the links are dead.

If I read that right, nadirah, the problem only exists if you install their toolbar -- and I don't remember ever seeing that option when I went to their site, which is how I've always done searches.

I use both Google and Yahoo but Yahoo sometimes gives me better, more relevant results than Google. Give my vote to Yahoo!

As far as search engines for web pages go, there are really only the big three left (in terms of scope, number of pages and proper ranking algorithms):

MSN
Yahoo
Google

everything else is either a subsidiary of the above, a copy of the above, a meta-search engine or a small growing proof of concept engine with perhaps 1/10 of the coverage of the big ones.

Of the smaller ones I've occasionally used:

But main tools are still the big three.

Just check it out...you get simulataneous results from yahoo and google in ONE page!!!!
