As you know I am running the trial version of NOD32 and really do like it.

I know I have asked a lot of questions but to me they are very important when coming to my decision. I have AVG Pro on my desktop computer and NOD32 on my laptop - if either computer (dread to think but have to) encountered a virus; given that there is a thread about the virus signatures etc which AV would be able to clean the best?

Does AVG Pro offer superior cleaning within the program or will NOD handle any virus in the same way given it depends more on Heuristics and not actual signatures o_O

Please do not think I am trying to battle the 2 against each other or start a this AV is best etc I am just trying to work if one would work in cleaning better than the other. I have never had nor do I wish to have a virus or trojan but as always we just never know. I do take extreme care and never open attachments without saving to a partition and scanning again but just have a wee worry that if anything was in there that NOD would not be able to help me clean :'(

I have recommended and installed NOD for others so I do like the program and will register for my laptop. I still have my sub for my main PC for AVG Pro but would consider NOD for this computer it I knew that NOD would be as capable and even better more capable than AVG if anything dreadful should happen.

Thanks for any advice. One last thing I have Outpost Pro which has an e-mail attachment filter plugin - would this conflict with NOD (I do not have it running at present)

As far as I’m concerned no. I had another computer in this afternoon that the client had run scans with both AVG (fully up-to-date) and Norton, we ran Nod32 and it picked up a RemoteAdmin Trojan that brings in a Backdoor program. Nod cleaned it off nicely. The client has gone home to change their passwords as a precaution and now has Nod32 for protection.

You will be fine with Nod32, plus you now have Wilders for any support that you require ;) :D

You will both be protected by Nod and should something need cleaning, Nod is good at house-keeping ;) :D

Someone else will need to answer this one, as I don’t use OP.

    Hope this helps…

    Cheers :D

Thanks Blackspear a few more positives to add to my 'homework' about NOD now :) I just need to be more confident in a new AV but so far my postive list is growing although I never wish to put NOD to the test ;)

Thanks again and it is really good to have a forum a big plus point for my friend who could not believe the replies I have received when he battled for a week or longer to receive a reply from his last AV software's tech support. A forum makes all the differnce (he has NOD now ;) )

    Indeed it does ;) :D

A good choice has been made :D

Has he joined us at Wilders?

    Cheers :D

I have NOD32 and OP 2.5 running. I don't do serious filtering with the OP e-mail plugin, just simple renaming of the attached file (a secondary extension is appended). Works fine.

Me too. OP, NOD32, SpyBot, TD3, Process Guard, ICQ, MSN, ICQ for Groupware, Acronis True Image, etc.
No conflict with NOD32.Low resource.Better than that, only the new version of NOD32, I think. :D

Wow, I go away for a few minutes and come back to all of these replies :)

Re: my friend, he has not joined the forum (things will change ;) ) as he is very new to everything to do with computers and forums (he is a silver surfer!) I can tell you that Wilder's has impressed him very much and thankfully it has confirmed all my advice to him about a firewall/AV. He did not think he was at risk until her read the posts in Wilders. I know he browses the forum a lot but next time I visit him I will register his name in the hope he will feel confident to post in the future.

I had stopped the e-mail filter in Outpost but given these replies I will try it out as it is an extra layer. I did wonder about the re-name bit but now I understand that this would only be temp for me to name back again. I will investigate these settings now.

When I am confident with NOD (well I should be now) there is no doubt I will have a few recruits converted to NOD when their AV's are ready for renewal. I fully appreciate the extra support of a forum and not just hoping a tech will reply if I am in a panic ~ thanks to all here :)

He might like to take a wander through the thread found HERE, which gives a guide to a few setups that are used. As well there are discussions HERE and even more HERE.

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D

Thank you it certainly will help him and I will link him to this post, thanks. I am impressed by the amount of security knowledge he has aquired given that he has only had a computer from December. It really does help when others can confirm all my concerns about security and it is not just that I am OTT with the way I layer mine.

These links will certainly help him make good use of his time on the forum

Well, then he will have no problem picking up things very quickly! He will have a much more developed brain than you 'youngsters' ;-)

A little concern - Nod is stamping all of my e-mails with the 'checked by. but I have just received one from a friend who had inserted photos into the actual mail (not as attachments) I noticed that there is no 'checked by NOD32' at the bottom of the mail although the other mail arriving does have o_O She is with AOL who seem to like her to add photos into the mail :(

Unfortunately she placed the pictures at the end after her actual written ending. Will this mail have been checked even though NOD did not stamp it?

Try taking a look at the e-mail source code. It could be that the stamp really is being inserted, but you do not see it because of the way your e-mail reader handles HTML code.

Way to go Robyn! We were so impressed by NOD32, we became resellers, and I've heard that story from other resellers too... good software at fair pricing has a habit of doing that to people, it turns them into evangelists for the tool... fair to middling, or even worse software (such as NAV) has very few huge admirers in the same way!

    Keep it up...

    regards

:) Sorry for only returning to the post this morning but thanks for the extra information (I really do like NOD ;) )

Re: my odd e-mail - I checked the source code and could not find NOD's stamp indicated in this e-mail at all o_O I have actually just forwarded the e-mail to myself (using another e-mail account) and NOD has stamped it clearly at the bottom.

As it happens I also received an e-mail newsletter yesterday from a textile/sewing design company which also has photos/pictures inserted into the actual mail for designs etc - no problem for NOD the stamp was there as it was in the 'Experts' Exchange' newsletter using HTML. Even e-mails which Outlook blocks pictures in (sorry some have no text format alt for the newsletters) NOD's stamp appears in each of them.

This is the only e-mail to date which has not had the NOD stamp although when I received the same mail on my main PC AVG had stamped the bottom of it. o_O If I receive anther like this from this lady I will ask her to attach the pictures in future but it will be interesting to see if she does send in this way (whatever way AOL load the pics for her) to see if NOD stamps and this happened to be a wee bug or something odd at the time o_O

Thanks for your help, I am relieved this morning to see the stamp on all my mail even the one I forwarded to myself which wasn't stamped yesterday.

Thank for the OP info as this really does tighten down a few more elements for me. I wasn't even looking for a new AV until I started to research one for my friend, discovered NOD and now I am using NOD (soon to purchase) on my notebook and then when my sub is over will purchase for my main PC :)

If NOD dose not stamp an e-mail does this mean it hasn't checked it?

My friend and I have been sending an e-mail back and forward today as we are working out details for PSPro so we need to keep all the e-mail conversation in the mail each time. I have been using my main PC all day with AVG Pro and each time we both have in and out AVG stamps on the mail.

I have shut down my main PC and am receiving the mail on my notebook with NOD - I have a list of AVG stamps on the mail and NOD places the stamp for my friend's sending as any attachment when I download via NOD but nowhere on this e-mail is a NOD stamp - I have viewed the source and it is not there either.

Another e-mail arrived about the same time - stamped by NOD but some how NOD did not stamp the ongoing mail o_O I am a little concerned when this happens as AVG has stamped away all day but not NOD :'( There are no pictures in the e-mail.

Sorry, it was the incoming stamp which was missing :'( I just mentioned the AVG in and out stamps as this was all I could see in the mail but when I downloaded the same ongoing chat to my notebook NOD did not stamp it on the way in for some reason. o_O

NOD has stamped all the other mail which came in plain/html mail but this is the second one which the checked by NOD stamp has been missing and I don't know why o_O the last one had the pictures which I thought may have been the reason but this one hadn't any pictures at all.

Outpost ads an extra extension to the attached file: .aq (earlier versions of Outpost added .safe to the attachment file). This .aq extension is a associated with Outpost. When you try to open an attachment with the .aq extension, Outposts File Guard will ask you what you like to do with the file:
Rename and open it or close the dialog window.
So you don't have to rename it manually :)

Blackspear - trusted on its way ;)

Thanks CyGho - I had one of those .aq .doc renamed by Outpost the other day - I re-named myself but since learned I didn't have to  thanks for letting me know how OP would allow me open  little extra layer of protection :)
