:( I tried, but I utilize quiet a few sites an programs that require JAVA. I tried to down load JAVA, but do not have enough memory for it to work with Firefox. I have no such problems when utilizing Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, thus I am relegated to use IE 6.0 SP1.

    Thanks

You dont happen to be using Adblock as well ? Adblock+Java applets can lead to slow downs on some systems.

:D Nope. I have an older machine an a total of 160 MGB memory, not enough for a download of JAVA. Firefox requires a download of JAVA in order to utilize it.

    Thanks

    Hi
Has anyone tried the FFox extension configurationmania ?http://extensions.geckozone.org/ConfigurationMania/

I believe it allows one to UI-access hidden FFox functions and prefs, such as sending referrers, etc., but I don't know if the extension does live up to its promises...

Also, does anyone know if some FFox extensions are buggy? Which ones and under which circumstances ?

    Thanks

  8. I believe that's just a nice UI for options that are builtin firefox already.

Most of us type about:Config in the location bar to do the same thing.

You want a list of all 300 extensions and the specific circumstances where they might be buggy ? :)

In theory, if you use several extensions, conflicts might occur, so under the right (rare) circumstances almost all extensions can be buggy. It goes without saying that exercising some common sense in trying not to install extensions that have similar functions will help reduce problems, but even then there are less obvious conflicts possible

    Hi ;)Thanks for your reply...
Well, about:config is nice, IF one knows what to do, and what does what... Which most newbies (like me)- do not.
Do you have one ? :D
    Cheers

I use Firefox exclusively with the exception of two web sites that require IE or NS, since I do not have NS I use IE for those sites. I have FF tweaked to my perfection, using 21 extensions and five plug-ins of which the Sun Java Plug-in is one of those.

Yes, I use Firefox it is my primary browser. The only other browser I have is of course, IE...

I have used a gecko based browser since Netscape 6.2 and have never looked back...

  14. No, I'm using Galeon (a Gecko frontend with a GTK interface), because Firefox's cross-platform GUI is slow and ugly. :p

  15. Hi...I had to let go of FFox because I -just can't get it to work with the JRE 1.5-02 version. Should I understand from youc quoted comment that there's a plug in for FFox which would fix the problem?
    Thanks for clarifications...
    Rgds

  16. Hi;)
Could you tell a bit more about the Galeon pros and cons ? Also, updates-wise... Is it regularly updated?
    Thanks

I recently switched to Firefox from Mozilla which I had used for years, initially on OS/2 Warp. Impressed with the fox, especially with the handling and range of extensions which is a nice step up from Mozilla. (Prior to Mozilla used Netscape and was an early registered user of Opera.) IE has never been more than a lump on my HDD that I disinfect as best I can and which I occasionally use to download updates for MS Office and Windows

I bought it with CD and T-shirt just after the release date and have tried it with updates three times and find that it needs a lot of work. I do not use it now because it is slower than Google, freezes my computer and I don't need neat litle boxes to place everything into.

Overall, it is not as smooth as its promotion. When it gets to where the Google is, or IE, I'll put the t-shirt on. But right now, the shirt's message is not telling anyone anything, much like firefox's promotional wizardry. o_O

Of course i use Firefox !!
Internet Explorer was and IS the most unsafe browser, from version 0.01 Beta until now, that has never changed.
The cache of IE slows down your whole system,
you can't deinstall it without helping your system into trouble pfff..
And it should only be a webbrowser!

So, in a security Forum this question is incomplete
    it should be:
"are you using Firefox or another browser to avoid security problems with Internet Explorer?"

Firefox is almost a perfect browser for me, it is a pitty however
that Opera is still much faster.

One of the most unknown things i like about Firefox is, that it can print webpages better then any browser out there!

Try to print a webpage with IE / Opera / Mozilla etc. or FireFox
    and see the difference.

Firefox is build on knowledge from the Mozilla community , that
was launching browsers when Microsoft / Bill Gates still said
that "Internet was not important for the Future ICT".

Microsoft never succeeded to solve security problems, that were found in the first releases of their products.

Just like the couldn't solve the problem that a virus could send spread itself
via the contactlist of Outlook(s) (was there from the first version).

Now they understand that security is a item,
not too solve the problems, but for marketing, and selling products.

So they buy all kinds of security companies which sell AntiSpyware and antivirus software.

Instead of selling antispyware/antivirus software (later), they should solve
the problems, that force you to buy these products.

I use Mozilla for over a year and a half and stick with this masterpiece,if you need firewall, antivirus, antispywares, anti hi jackers, anti trojans, pop up blockers, updates and hotfixs interminables,etc,etc...why is the reason for don,t switch for a safer and stable browser?
