I was on a site this morning and I got a popup ad from adserver.com even though I have popups blocked. I also recieved a cookie from z1.adserver.com, even though I have them blocked too. Does anyone have any idea why?

every once in a while you may have a pop up get through. The popup utilities are pretty good but they aren't perfect. unless it happens on a regular basis I don't think it should be something to cause to much concern

Certain Spyware can disable Pop-up and Cookie blockers. Try running an anti-spyware tool like Spybot S & D or the new Microsoft ant-spyware utility.

Ahhhhh, you'll love that AdBlock, fantastic program. I just wish that they would hurry up and add the whiitelist feature, but hey, its free, so I best not complain. ;)

I already do love it. I just tested it by going to Tom's Hardware and CNN. I told AdBlock to block these domains:

    Code:
    [Adblock]
    http://*.fastclick.net
    http://*.tribalfusion.com
    http://*.atdmt.com
    http://*.ad.tomshardware.com
    http://*.atwola.com
    http://*.linkmgmt.com
Sweet mystery of life, I have found you! No more annoying ads and pop-ups. :D

I will update this list on a regular basis so that people can use it. Just copy it to a text file and AdBlock can import it with the Import Filter option.

Check out some of the adblock lists that exist in the AdBlock website Forums, some of them will virtually guarantee you that you will never see another ad again.

I find that Filterset.G is quite a decent list
    http://www.geocities.com/pierceive/adblock

Also the other thing that will help you is an extension called PrefBar
    See http://prefbar.mozdev.org/

You can have tick boxes visible in your browser that allows you to easily turn off javascript, java, images, flash, popups, animation and warn about all cookies (and optionally just allow them as session cookies so that the site still works...)

Its a very good idea to leave most functionality off until you need it... and this makes it easy to do so, combine this with Ad Blocking and something to stop flash movies from playing until you want them to and you are a good way to being safe

I tend to leave flash enabled on the PrefBar and have another extension that shows me a "Play" icon that I can click on to actually run the flash if I'm feeling lucky that day. I use flashblock for this http://flashblock.mozdev.org/
