Indeed Marja, when you see all those controls your hands are just itching to use them. :D
Same for me about Fantasy and Sci-fi, I simply love reading those books and making those pictures. A lot of fun, sweat and searching/learning.
On average one picture takes 1 to 2 hours time, although some are less than 15 minutes, like the quickie I posted.
I've already chosen the theme 'Fire', so it's up to someone new ... like you, Hands Off or Steven and maybe Spanner. ;)
It's a real joy watching those creations, different techniques and ideas.
Thank you Marja. That picture took exactly 35 minutes. A great present for Rita, my buddy. Hope she'll find something to hang it on her wall. ;)

Sorry to hear about your dodgy connection. :(

Here's my last creation about fire, but I couldn't resize it properly without losing to much quality, so I hosted it :D:

I've been looking all over in my version, but couldn't find it. :doubt:
Do you recall where you found this option or is it a preference? You said it loads with every new picture?
Nice Marja, Stephen will surely appreciate. ;)

Brrr... gives me the shivers. Nicely done Brad.
It takes longer, but it's worth it Spanner. Look at what you've created.:D
You're quite getting along with PSP. :)

Marja, I think I found what you meant by Raster Deformation. :)
You clicked the deformation tool and now it's active.
When opening a new picture it stays active. Double clicking gives you the option to promote it to a full layer.
Just click the Hand (tool above) and it will go away, return to normal.
I hope this is it. ;)

    Hi Eldar!

How are you? I guess I could do the next subject along with all of you, just to see how it's done?

Sometimes just reading and seeing results don't seem adequate or instructional enough :) for me!

The tool I turned on and can't turn off, I guess, is on the left side of the page at the top called the "raster deformity" tool- well, that is what it says here!? It's right under the little hand, the very next one - I couldn't find anything about it on the prog either! :( Next time I will make sure I can turn a tool off!! :) BEFORE I go messing with the buttons and controls, etc. LOL!

I have read so many Fantasy and Sci-Fi books sometimes they blend together, but is your new picture subject from a scene in a Fantasy book?

Like I said, thousands of them! Let's see, the Unicorn stuck in the snow, is a tube? The evil guy and the halo around him?

But the fairy is your own, or maybe not - she certainly takes center stage!! Looks like she is almost 3-D!! Very sweet too, Eldar. Now, quit messing around and get that Unicorn out of there!!
    LOL!!

BigBuck I could only glance at your scary picture, he was creeeeeeepy!! So, I guess if that is what you were going for - you have succeeded! LOL!

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

Well, I typed a quick reply and before I could click to send it disapeared. Am I the only one with any problems here at Wilders'?

Cause it might be a part of my problem, but I am so dizzy now, I can't tell if it is mine or here.

If it wasn't at Wilders' I think I experienced my first computer earthquake! :)
The page just rolled up kinda and my post with it, then it came back to the last reply, which was mine?

If this sounds familiar, please point me to the right thread - I don't have a clue what is going on.

Does PSP cause any problems? I saw a google at techguy about PSP taking over the toolbar and stuff, got disconnected before I read it all.

BigBuck suggested I uninstall and reinstall- I think it might be a good idea, just to see, do you, Eldar?? Also we weren't sure if the tubes and frames I already downloaded could be put in another foder so they didn't just disapear! Thanks for any help or advice you guys can give!!

Sorry to take up the whole thread already!

    :p

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

OK, I tried clicking the tool off itself, I didn't know what the hand was for, thought it was telling me to stop what I was doing? (lol! well, I did) And maybe it should have!! LOL!!

    I'll try that, Eldar! :p

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

It worked, last night every picture I opened had it, right in the middle of the picture.

Do you know what it deforms?? I was thinking maybe it distorts the picture, but it looked more like a,.. one of those saws that cut things in a circle?? So, I thought it would cutout a part of the picture.

What all subjects have you done now? I saw snow, snowflakes, water(like the reflet alot!), snow, fire, did you do wind? Rain? Rain is hard isn't it?

OK, I will quit talking and listen instead, sorry!

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

    Hi Marja,
I'm fine again, but my kids are sick again ... :'(
Why not make a suggestion and we'll all join in to show you how it can be done or what you want it to be. Show you the instructions on screen how it's done.
That's why a good book about PSP helps, as well as the online tutorials. I'm still learning too, although I know a bit more. You never stop learning once you begin with PSP. It's like going back to school. :D

So it was this deformation tool you activated, like I showed in the screenshot? No harm done there, as long as you don't change anything in the Preferences.
Me too, but my picture is my own creation without a scene from a Fantasy book. Just a lot of imagination, dreaming. :D
The Unicorn is a tube and so is the fairy and Death inside the fireball. The halo is created by an image I downloaded, but erased the background. Afterwards I used a Effects -> Distortion Effects -> Twirl Factory Defaults. :). The mountains are from a picture where I erased the background. The sky is created by the Flaming Pear -> Glitterato plugin. I selected the white background with the magic wand and applied the plugin.
Like I said the fairy is a tube, where I applied the chisel effect and some others.
Great picture indeed and nice scary effect. Well done.

Try it out Marja, you can achieve some nice effects. Even text you can deform with it.
    Rain it is.
Do you've something special in mind?
No problem, we're here to listen. Your wish is our command, isn't Brad. :D

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

I don't think installing PSP would cause these problems, just by installing.
Like BB told you, it's worth a try to uninstall and reinstall again, but be sure to reboot before reinstalling.
Let us know how it goes. ;)

LOl, Marja, I think you clicked on the derform tool by accident.
If your problem persists, I would suggest that you send
    a screenshot :)

So yesterday, I just managed to do a little pic
    that goes with our theme....

As a new theme for the next 2 following weeks,
    I would suggest SPORTS! :D

    The original one ...
As you can see, I changed the colour of the eyes, the blanket
and the background....in the end I added a little flame as if the
cat was playing with it. :)

    Understanding Layers>Paint Shop Thread

Most beginners or even intermediate users of PSP
are not comfortable with layers or rasters*. Since layers or rasters
can achieve multiple effects and amazing pictures, it is really
useful to know what they are and what we can do with
them. Here's a good basic guide for beginners that
explains the multiple possibilities of layers or rasters.
I would advise you to read it for it is well explained
and you will never regret having learned how to work
    with layers. ;)

*Paint Shop 7 uses the word "layer" whereas Paint Shop 9 uses the
word "Raster", but they both mean the same.

    understanding layers

Here is a simple example of what you can do with
layers...I had an image of a sky....

    Re: Understanding Layers>Paint Shop Thread

And I want to add 2 tubes in it...a moon and a dragon.
First, I will promote my picture into a raster layer.
I will go into the "layers" menu and chose " Promote Background Layer"
    see window below.....

    >tip:each picture that you convert into a layer can be modified as
much as you want, the change that you make in the picture will
be applied on all the duplicated layers that will follow after<

    Re: Understanding Layers>Paint Shop Thread

Okay, now return to the Layers menu again and create a new layer for
we will add a tube in it that will be modified. ;)

Click on Layers> New Raster Layer...

Now add a tube in it, go to your Tools Palett and click on the the
tube tool, see image below (left side of the image), and above on the left
you can see the moon tube I chose. Once you opened the tube you like,
you can resize it the way you want.

Choose any tube you like from your tube menu or download a tube from
    this generous site:
    kandy's tube
the tube of the moon was found at this address:
    moon

    Re: Understanding Layers>Paint Shop Thread

Once you added the tube, you can modify its transparency.
Go to the Raster/Layers Palett, and move the little white arrows,
I reduced it to 90%, mode Normal.
You can reduce it more, depending the result you want to achieve.
Always make sure that the layer you want to modify is highlighted
otherwise the modification will not take into effect.
    See screenshot below....

    Re: Understanding Layers>Paint Shop Thread

Once I was satisfied with the moon layer,
I decided to add another tube.
*I added another layer, Click on Layers> New Raster Layer...
And I added a tube of a dragon in it.

I could not find the original site for the dragon tube anymore, so I will put
my tube here directly. In order not to loose its transparency,
open it in Jasc Animation Shop and then export it in Paint
Shop Pro. You right click on your picture and then you chose
"Export to Paint Shop Pro". then you can close Jasc Animation Shop.

If you don't have Jasc Animation Shop......
Or in case you want to open it direct into Paint Shop Pro,
you go to Image> Increase colour Depth>
    you select>16 millons colors(24 bits)
Then you promote the dragon into a layer and with
your magic wand set to 0 (tolerance), you click into
the picture and press delete to remove the white or
background colour. Now you have a transparent
    background.

Then you paste the pic of the dragon into the picture.... ;)

I did not modify the opacity this time for I want the dragon
to be 100% full opacity in order to come out as the main
    character of the picture.

Once you are done, you can save your picture under a *.psp* image
    or Paint Shop Pro image.

    >the image must be saved under a .psp format in order
to keep all the layers in it....and be able to modify them over
    and over again.<

After you saved it under a .psp format, you can saved it another time
under a .jpg format for it is easier to see it or view it on the Web. :)

N.B. When you will save it under a .jpg file or any other file that is not
a Paint Shop pro file, a dialog box will pop up and ask
    the following question:

Because the limitations of the specified file format(....)
the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Would
    you like to continue?
    See screenshot below...

Answer yes, and then save you picture in a folder.

*Why did I add a new layer for the dragon since
I did not add any change in it...I could have simply pasted it
over the moon, right? o_O

Just in case that one day I decide to add a different tube later on. :D
For instance, I can use the same image of the sky with the moon
and not add the dragon this time but a different tube instead.....

...imagine... I can use the same pic for Halloween
and add a witch instead of a dragon.

In order to do that, I just have to open the image of the moon and
the dragon in Paint Shop Pro again, delete the layer of the dragon
and then I will chose a witch tube that I will add as a new layer over
the layer of the moon then I will save it with a different name
(in order to keep the dragon one).

Tip: it is always good to have a .psp folder
to put all the pics you save under the .psp format
so if you decide you want to modify or add a new layer in your
image, you will be able to do it again and again... :)

Of course, you can reduce or increase the size of your image
once you are done. In my case, I reduced the size to 60%
    and added a transparent frame.

I hope this little tutorial will help understanding layers better.
I tried to be as simple as possible for new Paint Shop Pro users.

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

Tonight I played a bit with the Hue Mode in Photofiltre.
Since our new theme is now based on sports, see post 420
I decided to start with pictures of water sports.
First, I found a picture and just add a little frame in it..... :)
I decided to maintain the essential characteristics of the
picture as it is for I find it very peaceful and soothing. ;)

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

Then I played a bit with the Hue Mode to see how it
would look with complimentary colours. As you
will notice, the Indigo blue adds a night effect
    to the picture. :)

....Now the same pic after I applied the effect.
...Since Mother Nature already applied her own
filters in the picture I decided not to add anything
that might divert the attention of its natural beauty. ;)

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

    Hi,
I am a novice using Paint Shop Pro 7 and am trying to learn. I therefore copied your original picture, opened it in PSP and then, to try to achieve the same effect, I opened Color, Adjust, Hue/Saturation/Lightness (first time using this tool). I then shifted the color to get the same blueish hue. However I discovered that my final result did not have the same depth of brightness of the sunlight reflecting on the water that you have.

Is this a fault of my tool or did you do something more? (I do not know how to attach my photo to this message which I am viewing on a web page https://www.wilderssecurity.com/ on the internet) . Are you using a different tool to achieve this result?

    Thank you.
