I just began to use Firefox and so far my professional opinion is that "it sucks" ... and that's my professional opinion! I wouldn't dare print my unprofessional opinion here. LOL.

Just for starters, within the first 10 minutes of use:

    1. None of my bookmarks are in order! I would have to reorder 200 - 300 bookmarks!

    2. Firefox 1.0 will not allow attachment to the Sun Java Plug-in!

    How cool is thato_O?

This browser will probably be off my computer before nightfall. LOL.

Woo-hoo! I found "The Bookmarks Manager" and it put everything in alphabetical order. LOL. Don't you think that it should have been programmed that way by default?

I'm relieved, but that shows very sloppy work in my opinion.

Now what about my Java Plug-in and my Java Coffee Cup? LOL.

You use IE over Firefox because you think Firefox is SLOPPY? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! I'll gladly let you surf with that nice clean code known as Internet Explorer.

That sounds like a personal problem. But if you want to use IE I guess that is your right. That is my professional opinion

It's a little more than a personal problem Bigc73542. This Firefox browser is a little faster (I am using it now), but it's just a stripped-down version of Netscape. The reason that this browser is a little faster is that it is a text-based browser which lacks many sophisticated controls.

For instance, editing an HTML page or even just posting on many website venues is extremely limited. If you go to a Microsoft group, you can pull up a message form, but it's purely a text message form. There are no messaging controls, no message toolbars, it's all missing. "Yes" it works, but it does so by skimping on the full and rich 'internet experience' which I have come to love.

Is it worth the sacrifice? Is it worth having to download now a triplicate set of active-x, java controls, shockwave controls, music plug-ins, having another cookie cache, another internet page cache just to be cheated out of the full internet experience anyway? I think not. It's not a personal matter, it's a matter of quality and features.

In actuality the best and most secure internet browser available is through MSN, the MSN Premium Browser, but the downside is that you must be an MSN Member to use it. I am an MSN member through Verizon, but my preference is still MSIE because I may not be a Verizon Online customer forever.

Believe me, I know how to judge a browser and computer programs. I have had several misloaded pages with Firefox already, in just a few hours of use. The bottoms of some pages have failed to load, and I've had to refresh. No big deal, but this is a bare-bones browser.

I haven't even taken it for a test spin under really heavy conditions yet; for online gaming, such as the MSN Gaming Zone.

In my father's day, the quote was, "What the world needs is a good 10 cent cigar." It's the same here, Firefox is a good 10 cent browser, for people who have the need for speed and who aren't going to stop and look at the finer attributes of a website or it's design.

This will be my last post on this topic. I will leave Firefox on my computer for a few days, but I don't see any real purpose for me to maintain it.

    Enjoy. :)

My son was a premium MSN member until he found out that the msn browser is just IE with a different set of clothes on. There is no difference in the security of IE and the MSN browser. They use the same updates and hot fixes and they have the same exploitable problems.

    Model-Behavior,
I am no expert or Professional so maybe you would like to hear from me. I really have not tested Firefox to see it's good and bad sides. But it is fast. I hear it is not targeted by bad people so much yet.

As for being a just a stripped-down version of Netscape. I would not agree, it leaves no junk behind in the cookie area. Netscape leaves all kinds of stuff with weird names and codes I don't have a clue what they all might be. I do a cleanup after every use. Netscape it's o. k. but I'll take FireFox over it. Sorry Mr. Professional I just do not agree. FireFox has it's place and space on my machine. :p

I use K-meleon which is much less bloated than FF, but uses the same Gecko engine (in a much speedier, more efficient way).

For those who are curious about the current version of Netscape -- Ver. 7.1 here is a link to Silly Dog's amazing SKINNY Netscape Browser. It's really rather okay, wot?

I prefer Opera, but if it was between firefox & IE, firefox would be my choice.

Thanks for the tip, bellgamin, I downloaded k-meleon 0.8.2 and like it. Once I found the privacy plugin & installed it, the green lizard does everything I need, without extra bells, whistles, and gadgets.

Had tried firefox 1.0 briefly, it was alright, but soon uninstalled it as I still preferred IE6 with XP/SP2, which ain't a bad browser imho. Anyway, now I'm enjoying using k-meleon mostly.

I use firefox. Very fast, nice themes. But I think Ad-aware does not scan FF's cookies.
Anyone knows how to configure Ad-aware to scan FF cookies?

I bought it and have tested it 3 times and it's a troublesome deal: slow, not as good as a stand-alone Google and I got a "Google wannabe" virus using it.

Yes, a google wannabe that showed up, looked exactly like a Google, kicked Roadrunner off my home page, and greyed out the top one-third of the Options choice page so that a user had no access to change his home page. Compaq, HP, Microsoft and Roadrunner had no hopes for a cure at this time. My solution to fix it was to do a Quick Restore and start from scratch. Time consuming but necessary.

And yes, Anti-spyware,virus,wipers and a total of 10 of these security tool types, all the rave of the good guys, and all of them on my desktop, did not touch the Google wannabe. Before it ate the harddrive, I stripped it out.

So I put away my Firefox CD untill it grows up. A hacker has obviously found an easy way into this sly fox.

I am not using FF but have downloaded it when each new release was issued with the prospect to install. The reason for my hesitation is that when I research forums for details about FF some indicate that it is like 'going back in time' :( and can be really slow :( I know I should be using it as I am very much aware of security issues but still have not taken the step to install. I am using a 'shell' browser over IE as I really do like the tabbed style of browsing but I am aware this still leaves me with all of IE's security holes :'(

 this poll has prompted me to think again and also have a look at the browser bellgamin has linked to as it seems to be a faster browser than FF (just looked it doesn't have tabs). I think a friend has FF installed (hope so) as I would like to see how it works to help me take the step I should have taken a long time ago  I know it can be tabbed which is  but the speed issue is still a big question plus are there any issues if an uninstall was necessary?

    I'm using FireFox.

plus, I think someone should start a threat called 'Is anyone not using FireFox?'

and see if it gets any replies :p

I use IE6 with SP2 installed, with no problems. I am not a fan of open source.

Used to use firefox, I now use opera. Works better without the firefox bugs. But I still keep firefox around as a back up browser.

I have used Firefox since it came out. I like it, but could live without it.

I have recently installed NS 8.0 Beta. So far I like it, maybe as well or better than Firefox. I had also installed Thunderbird, but after a year or so went back to OE. I never had any security problems with either, but I just like OE better.

Yes, but of course with the proviso that there are some places I have no choice but to use IE.

I originally (and not that long ago) switched to the Fox because of major problems with IE totally (as far as I know) unrelated to security matters. Way too many pages weren't loading completely, but loaded fine with Fox. And even the pages that hadn't been a problem went a lot faster and smoother with Fox.

    Hi :)

I basically do the same - switch between Opera and FFox/Mozilla. Right now back to Opera, and very impressed because they get a perfect score at Secunia on Opera, which is rather spectacular.

Secunia an interesing site, so anyone can check wether a software is patched or not, which vulnerabilities still apply if any and, even more important, which criticality levels specific vulnerabilities are at.

I never encounter any site I'm interested in which would require the use of IExporer. But I'll keep an eye on Netscape 8 future versions, because I like this switching of rendering mode...
