Is there any other way around resolving 1500 Errors when the user is unable to run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility? The OS is Windows 2000 Pro. o_O

Does it give a particular Windows Installer Error Message ?

Also....could you provide just a little more detail like....when are you receiving this error message ?

It gives the "Error 1500- Another Installation Running" message when I try to install WICU, and I need it exactly for the purpose of getting rid of "1500"...A Catch 22. The same message appears while trying to install or uninstall some other applications, but not all: installing Adobe Acrobat, for instance, or uninstalling TPF. :ninja:

    Re: Way around.-addition.

I should have mentioned , of course, that there is no parallel installation running when I get the "Error 1500" message.

If you are comfortable looking in the registry(regedit.exe)....would you mind taking a look to see if you have the below InProgress reg key ?

If so....one thing you could try is to export that key for safe keeping....then delete that key and restart your PC.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress

You could also take a look at the below Run keys since "a lot of programs will list an install to finish running at a restart in one of these keys. Usually under the RunOnce key."

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress " is definitely not available in the Registry Editor.
All the rest that you mention are available. Important: when I right click on them and hit "Copy Key Name" after that, the window simply melts away. Does that mean that they are really exported for safe keeping and should I delete them and reboot after this operation without any danger?
    Thank you very much.

When you "Copy Key Name"....you are simply copying the whole particular branch of that registry key entry to Windows clipboard. For instance the Current_User Runonce key would be displayed in notepad\wordpad as....HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce. You are not copying it's contents.

I would NOT suggest removing any of those Run type keys unless you are certain what you are deleting. Do any of those Run keys contain data values that might relate to an install that went bad....any .msi type entries ?

There are no indications of installs that went bad and .msi type entries.
So copying a key name is not equivalent to exporting a key for safekeeping as in itailly mentioned by ypou, lesson taken, thank you.

    :doubt:

Correct....you are simply copying the name of that key. To export a reg key for safe keeping....follow the below instructions found in regedit Help under exporting.

"To export all or part of the registry to a text file

    1. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
    2. In File name, enter a name for the registry file.
    3. Under Export range, do one of the following:
To back up the entire registry, click All.
To back up only a particular branch of the registry tree, click Selected branch and enter the name of the branch you want to export.
    4. Click Save."

Thank you very, very much. So do I have to use these instructions for some manouver at this stage?
Otherwise, this might prove to be a longish campaign as it seems. My general idea is that if I can in some way install WICU, it will supposedly set right the "Error 1500" issue.
AS we are looking into the registry editor, what do you think of this entry?:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\INSTALLER\Products\0B79C053C7D38EE4AB9A00CB3B5D2472
I have to sign off now, will be online about this same time tomorrow.
    Best regqards.

...The CSLID # 0B79C053C7D38EE4AB9A00CB3B5D2472 was a wild guess from a friend who didn't have time to develop his idea and is not available now.If only I could install the Windows Clean Up Utility, I am positive everything would be okay!...
The Internet is bad today in my parts of the world, so I am signing off in hopes for a better tomorrow.
    Best regards. :D
