Anyone have experiance with SafeNSec?

Its from Starforce, people that have made one of the only unbroken copy protection schemes out there. They have some great coders over there I hear.

This new product claims to be proactive ID (Like Prevx/Desktop Armor), but also includes an Antivirus. No clue what AV it is.

Anyone have any experiance with it? The price is right, and sounds good. Just haven't tried it yet.

 

I just tried the demo, so far so good.

It uses the BitDefender engine, and seems to provide some pretty indepth intrusion protection based on early tests. I love the minimalist and professional interface and tray icon as well.

So far, I actually like this product. The AV in it is on-demand, which is what I want, I prefer to have ID as my on-access, and only use an AV on demand because i've never found an AV without some issue or conflict with other programs.

The trial doesn't seem to expire, or at least I can't find any expiration data in it. So i'm going to run it for a few weeks I guess.

It's a russian program very similar to System Safety Monitor; but it's paid.
Safe'n Sec also integrates a virus scaner but i not foud it very efficient.

But it is really more accurate than SSM (for the alert, each access to the registry is shown) and has many level for the configaration.
It also integrates integrity checking features.

*As a firewall application, Safe'n Sec is more efficient than SSM (just a personal point of view).
*As a firewall application with complete features, SSM is more effective.

S'nS (not expensive) is paid and SSM is free.IT may be an important criterion for the choice.
So try and make your onwn opinion.

I wonder is it the bitdefender 8.0 or the 7 version of their antivirus? Also I noticed it states in Detection and elimination of known threats


Safe'n'Sec detects known malicious code such as viruses, Trojans, and worms and eliminates them, using the antivirus databases from well-known antivirus software vendors. So it must use other data bases as well as Bitdefender?

 

I subjected SafeNSec to a different tests and so far it did a fine job. One program tries to change internet settings and SNS stopped it.

One reason why I prefer my primary protection to be a ID type system is because they almost never impact program performance or crash games. I prefer to run a manual AV scan on my HD every week, and just scan new files as I get them.

SNS has the added bonus of having both combined, and very streamlined. I will run it for a month and see how it goes.

 

I used SafenSec . Nice program if it will work with you set up . Did not get along too well with mine . It does a very good job . Slowed my app loading and boot time due to a conflict . Outside of that , I would have loved for it to work . I LOVED that program . Very good at what it does .

 

I haven't been able to track any performance loss using it.

My problem with AV's in the traditional sense is that they all seem to have issues with something.

NOD32 gave me hassles loading some web pages (even on compatibility mode), and also crashed some games and gave me some false positives.

KAV software I just don't like. I like their databases, but the software seems quite buggy. Also, it conflicted with a couple games I have and seemed to slightly slowdown my system.

Arcavir/MKS was really really nice, I never had it conflict with anything I did. But the endless false positives drove me insane. Even popular games like Rome Total War it flags as a virus, and I just don't have time to mess with it.

I think one of the best AV's is common sense, but even with that in spades, i'm not convinced I can run securely without one for long periods of time - despite running most of last year without an AV and having no virus when I finally scanned. (Firefox does wonders for security). My mail service has a double layered system for AV and Trojan threats, and never has had one pass through it, so that eliminates that hole.

So for me, the best solution is a IDS type product (PrevX, DesktopArmor, SafeNSec, etc), with a on-demand type product. So SafeNSec is like a dream come true because it offers both the IDS and AV. But I need to test it more before making any final conclusions.

 

hrmmmm, sounds interesting, ive always liked testing new things... and since my KAV isnt working fully, :: sighs :: i might just try this, does this application cut down on system speed/stability/efficiency? anyone?

hrmmm ok, if its good on a p4 2.4 then my comp should be fast enough (64bit)
