    I have true image 8 build 796 and am trying to do a full hard disk backup. I have an exterrnal hard drive connected by firewire to a winxp computer to save the backup. The external drive is given a new drive letter. When I choose this as the backup location an error message comes up saying that my computer cannot be used as a backup location. What can I do? Thanks.

    Hello Larrycleve,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis True Image (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

    We are really sorry for the inconveniences.

    It seems that there is some misunderstanding between you and Acronis True Image wizard. Could you please create the screnshots of your actions and one of the error and send to support@acronis.com along with Acronis Report and the link to this thread (please see https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=55317 for the instructions on how to get the report)? We will certainly help you with the solution.

    If you are not familiar with making screen shots, please read the below step-by-step instructions.

    - Get to the window which you want to make a screen shot of;
    - Hit the (Alt+)PrintScreen button on your keyboard;
    - Run Paint usually available in Start\Programs\Accessories or another graphics application;
    - Choose Paste command in Edit menu;
    - Save the result picture with JPEG format being preferable.

    Thank you.

    I'm totally disappointed with this product and am asking for a refund. I tried to unistall this through add and remove and it kept saying product not uninstalled. I eventually manually deleted the folder and removed all references in the registry. I installed the product again. This time it seemed to work and started backing up. In less than five minutes it gave read write errors and the drive dismounted from windows. This happened consistently after six repeated attempts. I then as a test installed v2i protector software and made two complete hard drive backups with no problems. This leads me to believe that there's no problem with the external hard drive but the program. Maybe it's incompatible with this brand of hard drive, Iogear. This is a major maker of external hard drives. Be that as it may True image doesn't work for me and I'm asking for a refund. Thank you.

    I'm getting this message too, only it says 'can't write to "MY COMPUTER" when it asks me for my file name. "My Computer" is in upper right hand of screen. I select my 2nd hard drive from the drop down list on the left and the default directory at the bottom (file name) is F:\ On the upper right the screen lists this hard drive. But when I try to type in another directory other than the root, it changes to " my computer" and I get the error message.

    The only way I could make an image is to let the program select the directory to put the images in.
