I have a question for the seasoned avast user. I installed the avast 4 pro trial version a while ago. I had one problem with it. I set up a scheduled scan. When the time arrived for it to start, there was nothing to show that it was running. No GUI on the screen. No icon on the task bar. The only way I figured out it was running was hearing my hard drive working and slow down in connection speeds. Is there a way to configure avast to show the scan in action?

I'm suprised no alert is recieved. The thing even talks to you to tell you when the virus definitions have been updated.

Exactly. How do you turn off that verbal notification? It is a littly annoying.

You can configure this in avast! settings (Right click on "a" ball and select Program Settings).

I tried "Silent running mode" in Update (Basic)/Details and that did not stop it. Now I have turned off "Message when results were successfully processed" in Confirmations. I will find out if that works when the next update arrives. Any other suggestions?

Now this one is pretty obvious. Program Settings/Sounds.
    You really can't miss it.

Fine, but that will disable the warnings when a virus is found. They really should provide more fine-grained control.

Just curious; why do you think the talk feature in Avast is annoying?
I think its neat. Where else can you find an AV that talks to you? So far Im very pleased with this program. I dumped AVG for avast! Good choice!!

JimF, of course you can fine-tune the sounds settings. Please see the Settings dialog. You can even assign custom wav files to each event in avast... :)

OK, I have now disabled that verbal message, which allows me to keep the others. That is a useful feature, I just found that one message unnecessary. By the way, I think your beta program was fabulous. I have never seen anything run so well.
