    Hi,

purchased True Image 8.0 some weeks ago and I use it for my dayly backup. I had a full backup and I add an incremental backup every day. Well, now my second (backup) harddrive is almost full and I would need some cleanup.

Ideally I wish, I could delete some of the incrementals or manage the secure zone in some clever way.

By reading this forum, I figured out, the suggested way would be to do regularly a full backup and incremental backups until the next full backup.

The new full backup would override the previous one. But what happens when my original disk crashes whild I do the full backup?

If my secure zone is big enough to handle a second full backup, would this override my existing backup?

Or should I do a full backup to a non secure zone before I do the full backup to the secure zone, so I am safe in case of a crash during the full backup to my secure zone ?

    Michael

Secure Zones can vary, you will need to make a partition (Secure Zone) large enough for whatever image you wish to put in. Full backups are the best if your using the secure zone. If the machine breaks (software problem) you can 99% restore using the secure zone because the image should be safe. IF its a hardware fault you may not be so lucky.

Making backups is totally dependant on the risk assessment, do you NEED to do it that way? Personally i find making backups of my important data once a week to another hard drive is much better than on the same drive or secure zone. You can easily manage it and you can treat them like normal files so you can archive them.

The question is: if I use two disks, and there is a crash on the original disk while I do a full backup to the secure zone on the second disk, will I be able to recover? Or would I need a second place to do a full backup, befove I override the secure zone?

If you're really concerned about your active system crashing while it is being backed up then yes, back up to a different area than your current full backup. I wonder what the chances of that are? That's kinda like saying... what's happens if my system crashes while doing my very first backup? Make sure your backup drive or secure zone can handle two copies of your backup plus incrementals. Davidk

The chances are the same as for any other 2 hours of heavy disk usage. Doing a backup involves heavy disk IO. Therefore chances that the disk crashes are higher than the rest of the day with much less disk IO.....

    Hello Scharf,

Thank you for choosing Acronis True Image (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

We regret to inform you that in the situation you described the previous full back up will be deleted but the new full back up will not be created yet. It means that in this case you will not have any backup at all. However it is very unlikely that this situation happens. We haven't heard about such cases at all while we have heard about many diks crashes under other circumstances.

    Thank you.
