    I'm a new user of TI 8.0 (build 786).
I am using Windows 2000 SP4 with all patches and NTFS file system.
I created an image archive and got message "the image was successfully created".
I used Check Image Wizard and got message "The image archive was successfully verified".
I used Restore Image Wizard and specified that I wanted to verify the archive before the restore. I selected the partition to restore and while it was 'Analysing Partition C:' I got the error:
"The selected partition contains the following error: File record corrupted.
Please note that you cannot change the file system and size of this partition.
It is recommended that you check these partitions after restoration with your operating system disk tools."
    My investigations:
    chkdsk /f - no errors
chkdsk /r - reports "The volume is clean"
Used Windows 2000 Recovery Console commands fixboot and fixmbr.
Used Start/Run sfc /scannow - to verify Windows 2000 protected files.
I've moved all user data files from the partition to a spare disk, emptied recycle bin, deleted temporary files, uninstalled various non-essential programs and defragmented in an attempt to make the corrupt file record error disappear.
    Interestingly, Powerquest PartitionMagic 8.01 reports:
"Error 1527 Bad update sequence number".
Assuming Microsoft chkdsk is correct then both TrueImage and PartitionMagic are not understanding some part of the NTFS structure.
Alternatively, there is a deficiency in chkdsk and both TI and PM are smarter (but not smart enough to give some useful error message which pinpoints the problem). Either way I'd like to find out what is going on.
I know I could delete the partition and recreate a Windows 2000 partition but I'd like to find the cause of the problem so that Microsoft/Acronis/PowerQuest(Symantec) might fix the bug.
By the way, I'm quite happily using the partition on a daily basis without any other problems.
Anyone have any ideas before I start reporting the problem to MS/TI/PM Support?

They've been "helping me" with the corrupted file message for over a month - still no solution. Lately I think they've just given up and left me hanging. They don't seem to appreciate or care that it takes many hours to try all the stuff they want you to do. Hope you have better luck.

It appears that I too can join the club :( .

I ran the AcronisReport.exe program and near the bottom it reports that my 2nd hard drive (the one I have a problem with) has a:

File system error: 25 (File record corrupted)

No WinXP system tools (chkdsk, "Computer Management", Explorer) can find anything wrong with the drive. The Acronis software is the only program that has difficulties.

The Acronis software reports that the disk it completely full when it is really only about 41% full (out of 244 GB).

The unique thing about this drive is the size of the files on this drive. I use it to store my video edits so that many of the files are BIG. 192 files take up 95 GB of disk space. I wonder if there is some problem with the 2GB file limits?

Just an update on my problem.
I still have not solved the problem however I have found something interesting.
I found on MS website information that Chkdsk does not identify or fix all possible file corruptions. So Chkdsk (even with /r option) may appear to complete successfully but there may still be obscure NTFS problems not reported or fixed.
Which may explain why a folder I have can not be deleted or moved to another disk. However, it can be renamed or moved within the same disk. Note that the rename works but this folder still can't be deleted!
I get error message "Cannot delete xxxxxx: The directory name is invalid".
The file also has attribute set for encryption (which I did not set) and can not be set to normal (unencrypted) - unchecking encryption in Properties doesn't report any problem, it just doesn't change the attribute!
I've tried sdelete (from sysinternals website) but since it relies on NTFS access techniques it also can't delete.
I don't know if this NTFS corruption is causing the problem I'm having with PartitionMagic and TrueImage. However I'm inclined to think it is.
Does anyone know of any third party utility which checks NTFS file structures more comprehensively than Chkdsk?
Or any ideas how I can just delete this folder?

Note to Ilya: I haven't formally reported this problem to you since I am still not convinced it's a problem due to TrueImage.

    Hello tachyon42,

The error in file system is one of the possible reasons for Acronis True Image not working properly with your hard disk. The workaround I can recommend you to try is to clone your current hard disk to another one (in the "As is" mode), make sure your new disk is bootable and Acronis True Image works properly with it, format the current disk and clone your new disk back to the old one. It may help you to solve the problem.

Another way will be to find the software that can fix problems with the file system.

    Thank you.

    Hi Ilya,
I thought cloning would just copy the file structure problem to the new partition. I'd just end up with two identical partitions, both having the same NTFS corruption.
    True?

I too had this problem. I used Spin Rite 6.0 to test my HDD's and all was good. Spin Rite unlike CHKDSK etc takes about 3 hours to test my 120 GIG WD SE HD. I know it works because it has found problems with disk in the past that no other program could find, and flagged the bad parts so they wouldn't be used again.

So....it's not my disk why the corrupt images? Well I kept getting a corrupt image so I changed the name of the image and it no longer corrupts ito_O

Problem is I can't recreate the error.
