Sandboxie-Plus 1.16.4 / Classic 5.71.4 has been released on October 2nd, 2025. This version introduces a new protection option that blocks non-administrative instances of the session leader, such as Sandman.exe or Sbiectrl.exe, from accessing encrypted box data. This safeguard is enabled by default, though it can be disabled by setting ProtectAdminOnly=n if required. In addition to this enhancement, the release resolves a critical issue where Sandboxie-Plus 1.16.3 failed to connect to the driver on Windows Preview Build 27943, as tracked in issue #5003. Stability has also been improved with a fix for crashes related to the latest Signal client. Furthermore, the internal checks in Thread_CheckObject_CommonEx have been strengthened to provide more robust handling of encrypted boxes. This update continues the project’s focus on reliability, compatibility with evolving Windows builds, and stronger data protection. Hi David, Just installed this new SB+ version on 2 boxes, win 10 and win 7, both show the same behavior. Firefox browser opens in a red hardened sandbox, but when I close it, it tries to empty the sandbox and just hangs, searching for a directory with ??. Same behavior on both OS, I hit cancel and a couple of times the whole gui just crashed, this is just a quick "heads up" seeing if u can reproduce or anyone else has this issue. Thnks!
A little more testing and this new condition for me is sorta solved by running the program in admin mode. It seems by not restarting it in admin, it has permission conflicts with my sandbox files. I am operating in an encrypted box. My question is: Does running this in admin mode make any differences to security of the sandbox and if so, do I have any options? (i.e. - relocated any files or boxes). I guess it's pretty obvious I have never had to run admin mode before til this build. Thanks much!
I'm strongly considering paying for sandboxie plus. Is there a way to pay for it per year or per month as a reoccurring thing without supporting paytreon? which supporter certificate includes all the paid features? It would be helpful to have a chart that shows what has what does the encryption pack allow me to set a custom DNS over HTTPS for specific boxes?
here is the chart: https://sandboxie-plus.com/feature-comparison/ You can pay in the store with paypal (should take CC also without an account) or via stripe which takes various payment options in come countries even instant bank transfer.
For some reason, today when I ran Firefox (I am on 141.0.2) after cold starting the computer (W11), Firefox couldn't open up sandboxed. After trying a few times and failing, I updated Sandboxie to 5.71.4 and that fixed the issue. The previous SBIE version was 5.71.2. I am on W11 26100.2899. Last night all was well, I did not update anything between last night and today, perhaps Microsoft changed something silently in my system. Bo
An update to my post above. After updating Sandboxie, I am now experiencing a Copy and Paste issue in Firefox when running sandboxed. This is happening as well as the issue I described above. Both issues are intermittent, sometimes they happen and sometimes they don't. I have already also updated Firefox to version 144.0 and my issues still happen. I can not reproduce either issue running Firefox unsandboxed. I am going to do a clean install of Firefox right now (which I really hate doing) but if anyone else is experiencing issues like what I describe, please tell me, or tell me if your Firefox and SBIE are OK working together at this moment. I appreciate reply's, either way. Perhaps there is a known issue that I don't know about, so I ll wait a little while (for reply's) before clean installing Firefox. Bo
@DavidXanatos Hi David. Please read my posts above. I am having an issue with Firefox running sandboxed. There seems to be 2 issues. 1. You click to run Firefox sandboxed, and it doesn't run. It hangs in the sandbox, it tries to open but doesn't open. And 2. You click to Copy something in a webpage, and when you try to paste it in another webpage or outside sandboxed Firefox, like on a Text file, the Paste option is greyed out (unlike the photo below). To fix the issue. First I updated Sandboxie and Firefox to version 144.0. Afterward, I tested with 2 new default settings sandboxes. And now, I uninstalled Firefox and clean installed Firefox. The issues come and go. Issue 1 (Firefox hangs, I haven't experienced it for a few hours). The one that is easy to reproduce again and again is the copy and paste one. About 50% of the time when I open Firefox, Copy/Paste might be working OK or it might not be working. Do you know anything? Is there an issue that you know of? If there is, and you are not aware of, it should be easy to reproduce. I am in W11 26100.6899. In unsandboxed Firefox, now or before the things that I done, Firefox has no issue. David, I made this video for you, click link below. In the video, I click Copy and try to paste in another webpage, but can't because the option is greyed out. https://gofile.io/d/XQxbAb Bo
Hi Bo, I won't be of much help as I'm on Windows 10, but I have no issues with the latest Sandboxie Classic and the latest Firefox. I watched the video too, interesting problem, but I have no idea why it's happening. If there was no Windows update and it just suddenly started acting up, then I have no clue, but something must have changed. Try running SFC and DISM maybe? Wish I could be of more help.
Hi Bellzemos. There is nothing wrong with Windows or Firefox, the problem is Sandboxie. Probably a corrupted Sandboxie.ini. So, to fix the issue I'll have to clean install SBIE. I just wish David replied, perhaps he knows something, and I could avoid going thru a lot of hoops and could have avoided all the effort I did last night to find a solution to fix my issue. The only other time I reported an issue with his SBIE, he didn't even acknowledge my post. I spend a long time last night testing and discovered a easy workaround to the issue, the workaround also works for Firefox hanging in the sandbox, which it happened just a few minutes ago when I cold started my W11. Regards Bo
