So I have the portable version. When I try to run it, it tries to update it to version 7 by installing it. Anyone else?
Hi Trooper: Can you post an image of what you see? I run CCleaner Free Portable v6.39 from a removable USB stick and have auto-updating turned off, and all I've seen is the same "BETA: Try our new CCleaner" button at the top of the interface (highlighted in yellow in the image below) for the past month or so. Avast / Piriform told me they have no plans to release Portable builds of CCleaner v7.xx (see employee MrA's 08-Oct-2025 post in my topic Builds Download Page Offering Outdated CCleaner Portable v6.39 in the CCleaner forum) so I assume if I clicked that button it would install CCleaner v7.00 on my hard drive instead of offering a v7.00 Portable build. ----------- Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.6332 * Firefox v143.0.4 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.25080.5-1.1.25090.3001 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.4.1.215-142.0.5389 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.39.11548 * HDCleaner Portable 64-Bit v2.091
Avast / Piriform has officially acknowledged that CCleaner v7.xx is no longer compatible with Win 7 SP1 - see the support article CCleaner Compatibility with Windows 7. That article includes a download link for the final CCleaner v6.39 installer that will still run on Win 7 SP1. NOTE: Download links for legacy editions of CCleaner v5.64 for Win XP and Vista are posted <here> in the CCleaner forum. ----------- Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.6332 * Firefox v144.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.25080.5-1.1.25090.3001 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.4.1.215-142.0.5389 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.39.11548 * HDCleaner Portable 64-Bit v2.091
Hi Trooper: I don't think I've seen that particular pop-up, but I'm guessing it's just a new variant of the intrusive pop-up ads that CCleaner Free v6.34 and higher users have been seeing since ~ April 2025 nagging them to upgrade to CCleaner Professional. See the images in my 02-May-2025 post in web1's Too many popups of ccleaner in the CCleaner forum. I still see these large pop-ups on occasion in my CCleaner Free Portable v6.39 and I just click the "x" in the top-right corner to close. I suspect a 60-day trial edition of CCleaner Professional v7.00 would be installed on my computer now if I clicked the Install / Upgrade button on one of these pop-ups. ----------- Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.6456 * Firefox v144.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.25080.5-1.1.25090.3001 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.4.2.217-143.0.5407 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.39.11548 * HDCleaner Portable 64-Bit v2.091
I think you are right Imacri. I will keep an eye out and let you know if it keeps happening. I just did a fresh install of Windows 11 25H2 today on my desktop at work. We shall see.
