I haven't used CCleaner in years, but I was interested to see the price.
The prices are way too high, in my opinion.

I get Microsoft Office 365 plus 1 TB of OneDrive storage on up to 6 devices for not much more money than their Professional Plus 1 year / 3 device deal.
Besides that. I see lots of complaints about it on various forums.

HiBit Uninstaller, which comes with numerous tools, including various cleaners is completely free.

Further to my previous post # 22 of 07-Oct-2025, the system requirements at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/ccleaner7beta currently state:

"CCleaner 7 is compatible with Windows 11, 10, 8.1, or 8 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions), including Windows on ARM. Excludes S mode, Mixed Reality, Mobile, IoT, Starter, and RT editions. Cloud Drive Cleaner currently supports Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.”

However, sanamo's 07-Oct-2025 post # 38 in John29's I have CCleaner free and mt PC is running Windows 7. When I “Check for Updates” I get error message 0x12029 - what cn I do? in the CCleaner forum suggests that the current CCleaner v7.00.984 stub installer (i.e., the small 1.6 MB ccsetup_online_setup.exe download manager currently offered at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds) will not run correctly on either Win 7 SP1 or Win 8.x.

To add to the confusion, the release notes for CCleaner v7.00.984 (rel. 06-Oct-2025) at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/version-history do not mention that Win 7 SP1 (and possibly Win 8.1?) are no longer compatible with CCleaner v7.x.

I'd suggest anyone who has a Win XP to Win 7 OS or wants to use a Portable build of CCleaner read posts # 35 and onward of John29's topic in the CCleaner forum for a discussion on where to download a compatible CCleaner installer for your system.

    Hi @ Wilders

I am currently on v6.39 (the one before V7) and I am hearing not so good things about the new version.

My main concern is this, when you update to V7 is it a completely new install OR does V7 retain all the settings from V6.39.

Very grateful for any or all comments about the new version but PARTICULARLY settings retention or not in V7

    Thank you

    Terry

    Hi TerryWood:

See nukecad's 08-Oct-2025 post in toppier's In version 7 where is the nice cookie processing system in the CCleaner forum. Users are reporting mixed results retaining their custom settings during the upgrade to v7.00, and it might depend on whether your v6.x custom settings are stored in the Windows registry or saved in a ccleaner.ini file. Forum Moderator nukecad also notes that the option to save custom settings in a ccleaner.ini file is no longer available in v7.00.

I'd suggest you read through Padraig's 07-Oct-2025 CCleaner version 7 in the CCleaner forum since it seems to be the most active topic for feedback on CCleaner v7.00. If you still have any thoughts of upgrading to CCleaner v7 after reading that topic I'd advise you wait for a few more versions to be released and hope that Avast / Piriform fixes some of the worst bugs and design issues in v7.00 - there are many users in the CCleaner forum asking for instructions on how to roll back to v6.39 because v7.00 is such a mess.

When you backup the registry before you fix the problems in V6 you can easily find the backup to restore in the documents folder. In V7 the backup is not in documents but some other place.

Thanks for finding where the Reg Backup was located. I still have V7 but don't plan on using it because i installed 6.39.

registrybackup will kill system. if not now, then in near future. a reg-backup is not new, but is has no gain becuase it will fail on import and leave a system anytime in a failure state. if backup the a complete image which cover all!

The statement implies a registry backup is failing because it is not compatible with the current, altered state of the registry. This can happen if the backup is too old, contains syntax errors, or lacks the necessary permissions to be imported. Before importing, check for formatting issues, ensure you have administrative privileges, and try exporting the backup to a different location.

I can't believe that people are still using CCleaner? I stopped using it many years ago when it became way too bloated. Are there any screenshots?

See posts in first page of this thread.

There are so many problems with it that the ccleaner forum is just full of them. Some people cannot even get past the Welcome splash screen of v7 as it covers up all the screen and cannot be X'd out.
One poster found a way around that by disconnecting from the internet and then opening and closing ccleaner. The Welcome screen was then gone.
So many things are missing in this version it makes it hard to use. (I am not)

i wrote it will kill system = windows.
windows wont let you import the whole registry file, windows has a lot of secured sections where overwrite is not possible, so the import remain with a failure messages - and makes thus windows unusable because not completed.

anyhow "registrybackup" - some use this method to "defrag" a registry, which is complete bs. the registry is not a single file, its a lot of combined files. look into
    %windir%\System32\config\
    and
    NTUSER.DAT
    in your user account folder

if you want to restore a registry backup, then you only can perform this when windows is not running. how should this be possible when the backup tools are windows GUI? very simple - it is not.
maybe you remember ERUNT or REGBACK.

but windows since windows 10 is able to recover itself, but you need to activate this feature with and after 1803.
either maybe usable with windows in safe mode, or from another instance, e.g. stick.

for ccleaner, it has to use a recovery instance right before windows is starting up. anyhow a reg file is way to silly because a reg file is only usable with windows.

    btw
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001
is a backup (the latest working state) of
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet

but its also a blueprint if you want to change services which are not changeable by default.

Holy crap, how can't they design a simple cleaner? I mean it's owned by Avast? I must say I'm pretty happy with Wise Disk Cleaner.

As far as I know CCleaner registry backup only contains the entries that you selected to 'clean'. It then puts only those entries back if there is a problem afterwards and you select to merge the entries back again.

Problem is when a 'non-understanding' user ticks all of the entries it is very unlikely they can all be put back after some time has elapsed.

    It's a pointless exercise really.

Keep fixing it till it's broke. A known law of software development.
