Well it was OutBound Only and this year they introduced InBound and I assume they still have to use Windows Firewall API like other software firewalls. You can read but they don't actually say: https://www.glasswire.com/best-firewall-software/
OK I see, a bit weird because the Windows Firewall has always managed both inbound and outbound access, but I guess you can now configure it. But it's still not a standalone firewall. In other words, if Windows Firewall gets bypassed, I assume you're still toast.
Version 3.7.880 - (August 27, 2025) GlassWire - Personal Firewall & Network Monitor Added support for monitoring running applications with no network activity in the GlassWire Protect section. Added ability to export network scanner results to a CSV file. Fixed an installer resolution issue on high DPI displays. Fixed a UI distortion issue after resuming from sleep mode. Fixed various UI issues with popups and traffic monitoring graph. Fixed compatibility issues on x64 ARM processors.
I actually don't like this version way to many Blocked and pop-ups when Ask To Connect is Enabled I might go back a version... https://forum.glasswire.com/t/v3-7-880-blocking-tons-by-itself/21026
As an aside Rasheed, I've been an avid fan of your inquisitive and infallible logic. Perhaps at this point Wilders should consider sending you a monthly check in the mail. Just kidding. Seriously though, you're a stalwart asset to the Wilders community and appreciate your contributed postings accordingly. Please keep that torch burning.
@Triple Helix Yes, i saw this thread yesterday, couldn't agree anymore, waiting for a next version, why they mix applications with no network ?, why not separate them ?
Well, I wouldn't say my logic is always infallible LOL, but thanks. But about GlassWire, it is indeed a front-end for the Windows Firewall (similar to Windows Firewall Control), but it would be nice if it added basic protection against malware trying to evade the firewall.
I agree. Active for what the user sets upon first-access for user apps, as it has been for so long. And another to-be-named for what're GW's new out-of-the-box rules and changing either rule would move the app to Active, and back into the to-be named when deemed Inactive. I found Taylor's post on the GW forum of interest https://forum.glasswire.com/t/v3-7-880-blocking-tons-by-itself/21026/8 in that a first-access challenge is evoked on a GW-blocked process. Perhaps the same is evoked for the GW-allowed processes. In either case, it seems the user can select which rule to proceed with. Note that in the pop-up it is not evident which rule was set by GW and Taylor didn't screen shoot the drop-down caret content. Meanwhile, these Defender events for service and def updates began to show up in Log Analysis last week having never done so prior. Not a problem, of course. But it sure loads up the Uninstalled Apps pane. Oh well, firewalls ain't easy...
Firefox being my thing, I always have all processes for Edge blocked but occasionally ran an update when a zero day fix is reported. Or just for grins. So, prior to v3.7.880 I allowed Edge, Edge Update, and kept WebView2 blocked; those were the only three listed when using Search for "Edge" under GlassWire Protect. When Edge completed the update, I closed it and re-blocked the two. Now in v3.7.880, in this screenie, this is what an "Edge" search returns. A whole lot more than just Edge, Edge Update, and WebView2. This is the state of things just after an Edge update: Edge will browse OK without issue. It will not Update with v1.3.119.39 allowed and v1.3.195.57 blocked; a "can't connect" objects. When manually reversed, connect is OK. I wrapped this up in an email to GW support. Wait and see. Sidebar: There were several blocked Edge items mirrored under Uninstalled which I cleared thinking it would remove their counterparts under Active. I was wrong and wish I had screen shotted for a before/after.
@Tripple Helix - You're welcome. I think they just drifted away from the keep-it-simple UI for the Protect feature set. Too much Domotz influence, perhaps. Edge and iDrive connectivity are the only apps I need to toggle on a regular basis, the latter being the manual backups I do every few days or so. (I do keep the iDrive Tray connected for notifications, etc.) So, I'm going to stay with the current version of GW.
