Huge difference between no internet and no electricity. No internet? I'm old enough that I've spent a good portion of my life without it. Life would go on. No electricity? Those that had no food would become very dangerous within 72 hours. Backup plan? It would only be as effective as you are safe.

That is what they do (news outlets). Scare and confuse.

Wouldn't be a big deal. I still know how to do things in person. :D

I was born and raised in an era before the internet so I know what it was like to live without it. However, my reality today is that if I am without my phone for more than a couple hours I feel like Robinson Crusoe on a deserted island. Knowing a life without internet and actually trying to exist without it now just seems unfathomable for me.

No internet no problem. Intranet as long as the electricity is good- or battery. Like @xxJackxx i live a good long life WITHOUT INTERNET. A portion of my early years NO AIR CONDITIONING either. Ever wonder why cattle high tail it to the nearest trees (shade) on a farm during days of sizzler heat waves. That was normal life in the 1960's for many of us still pushing the envelope. No cellphone, no net, etc

Ah, the good old days. I never experienced A/C until I was in my 30s. It was around but not common. None of the schools I went to had any. Just old box fans with metal blades. Way better than the plastic ones they make now. Phone service was $3 a month though it was attached to the wall and had a rotary dial. No streaming services, no DVR, you watched something when it was on or you missed it. Internet? I don't need no stinking Internet.

The same for me, internet and smartphone, and it applies to WhatsApp too.

ps: the time to feel on a desert island is more or less ten minutes for me

Without the internet, I would be insolvent. My bank no longer has a branch nearby. I handle all payments online. I pay with my smartphone and my credit card. I still have a small amount of cash, but it would only last for two weeks.

Maybe it is a little bit exagerated but I am somewhat close to this. Without Internet I couldn't withdraw cash from from ATM and pay by NFC (mobile payment terminals/ mPOS would not work).
I couldn't buy tickets for train by mobile app etc so limited transport.
Some critical infrastructure depends on Internet nowadays, and even more can be breached by some intrusion from Internet.

I always thought it was ridiculously stupid to put that stuff on the public internet. What could go wrong? Doh!

Fortunately in Arizona where I live our power grid isn't accessible on the internet, and it's reported to be among the most reliable in the country. It would be catastrophic if that grid ever went down indefinitely during summer here when its demand is at peak because of extreme heat. It'd be a death sentence for a great many Valley residents.

If a local internet would go down, a smartphone serves as a good backup, but if it went down overall, that would be complicated, like payments, groceries, etc. I have plenty of books, so I would not be bored, though I would miss music.
Same here, I have not really used cash in a decade, but EU plans a digital euro, basically a digital cash like crypto, you will not need internet to use it.

100% accurate comment. Any backup plan, as far as stockpiling goods, would only serve as a collection point for others to come and take from you, regardless of how much security one has in place.

You got it, my thoughts exactly. I dread that day but I suspect we'll see it. 20 years worth of canned goods? Your neighbors will find you first.
