    Any ideas/suggestion's ?

Looking to get new mid-range phone, possibly one Android and iOS one.

    Don't mind 2nd-hand.

Mainly want long battery-life, decent screen, camera, 5G, and ideally long'ish upgrade's. Probably go 256GB storage and 8-`12GB RAM.

Aside from phone/text usage, camera, GPS, browsing, don't really use for gaming, but want it to be future-proof for few year's - specifically app's which stopped working on older iPhone.

Want over 6" screen and possibly on larger end.

Looking at Google Pixel 9a or XL
    Samsung A56 or A55
Also, 2nd-hand or pretty much new S20/21/22/23 or Plus version's
    XR
    XS Max
    iPhone 11 Pro or Plus/Max
    12 Pro or Plus/Max
    13 or Plus/Max
    Maybe 14 or Plus/ Max

Like that A55 has expandable SDCard slot.

    Any other idea's ?

    Appreciate the help.

I have and enjoy a Pixel 9a. Happy to have made the switch from my Samsung J3, which was loaded with more bloatware after each update. The 9a is not perfect, but it fits my needs well, and 7 years of support.

    That's a pretty wide net.
iOS is easy - just pick the latest model in your price range.
Android is a little harder, but as @Bertazzoni posted, ANYTHING except a Samsung.
IMHO, anything in the Pixel range would be a good choice.
The new Pixel 10 is being released next month as is far superior to anything they've done before.

Having owned a pixel Pro before, I can agree with what @longshots said. Pixels are very nice phones t hat don't costs too much. In fact, you can often get very good deal on them from your carrier. The magic with Pixels comes from their software. Their hardware has never been that great, but their software is amazing. The only reason I switched was that that there is no screen-mirroring on a Pixel. They can chromecast, with an adapter, but no miracasting.

Indeed. I like things about their UI, but that's it. Way too much crap.

    @Defenestration,

You already have a pretty good list. Any one of those phones will be a good choice. The only thing I advise is; don't buy a used phone, buy a new one and the latest model, even if you have to pay a little more.

I decided on an Oppo Find X3 5G Pro - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3nkmky69 , back in November 2021. I would buy another Oppo flagship, but sadly Oppo seem to have abandoned the Australian market for their topline smartphones.

Pixel 8(a) and newer are still the only phones with support for hardware MTE (Memory Tagging Extensions), which is a very strong exploit mitigation for memory safety bugs: https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.com/2023/11/first-handset-with-mte-on-market.html
Afaik Googles support for it is still limited and needs to be enabled through a developer option or the new Advanced Protection mode in Android 16. But if you're a security enthousiast or want to keep your data safe from Google, you can install GrapheneOS which makes extensive use of MTE.
