Raza, of interest and confirming your previous comments... I tried to upgrade a laptop to W11 LTSC IoT Enterprise 24H2. This is the laptop with Win11 22H2 and the incompatible CPU. The install went well. There were no warnings. But on completion, each Win11 load only lasted 10 seconds before it rebooted.
A couple of years ago, 8,5GB, with full Os functionality. Nowadays when Windows has grown it is not as interesting as before because of prolonged restore times, so i don`t clean so much any longer. So reserved storage was inactivated on LTSC from the begining?
I wanted to see what happens if you upgrade a fresh Win11 install to W11 LTSC IoT Enterprise 24H2. TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite was the only app installed by me in Win11. During the install I chose "Keep personal files only". Settings and apps will be deleted. Unfortunately, this was the best choice. After LTSC was installed, all of the Microsoft apps which we don't want were gone. That's good. But, TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite was gone too. So it's not a practical method of upgrading as it removes the software you want to keep. I'd suggest a fresh install of LTSC.
If a lower install footprint and no bloatware is the main goal, shouldn't you guys be using Tiny11? It is a stripped down version of Windows 11 made from the official Windows ISO by using a custom script. It has approximately the same install size as W11 LTSC IoT Enterprise, but with the added benefit that you can activate it with the same key that you use with your regular Windows Home or Pro. If you use a digital license, then it will self activate after install. I have never installed it or used it, but a few people I know use it as their daily driver without issues. The script used to make Tiny11 is open source and can be downloaded from GitHub.
Yesterday I had 14.9 GB of used space in my LTSC partition. Today it is 10 GB. I don't know why it's changed. I haven't done anything and the OS has rarely been booted.
Brian, there could be various reasons why you gained this space. A few that come to mind are: If "System Protection" is enabled it could be the system purging restore points. If "Storage Sense" is enabled in "Settings -> Storage -> Storage management", it could be the system auto deleting unnecessary temp files. If "Pagefile" is managed by Windows then it could a decrease in your Pagefile size. If you turned off hibernation but did not reboot the PC then the size discrepancy might be the system clearing the hiberfil.sys file.
Raza, good suggestions. I checked each and it was the pagefile. Or rather, no pagefile in the LTSC C: partition. The System Managed pagefile was now in the E: drive. I reset it to the C: drive. Then deleted the E: drive pagefile. All OK now.
This has also happened to me a few times, but in my case, Windows created a duplicate pagefile in my data drive. So I had a pagefile in drive C, and another much larger one in drive D. But clearly the one in drive D was not being used because I was able to delete it from within Windows by right clicking on it. I was never able to figure out why a duplicate pagefile was created by Windows in the first place. This has happened at least three times with Windows 11.
