So, I very reluctantly gave up on Shadow Defender & downloaded the 30 day trial of Deep Freeze. I'm halfway thru the trial and I have to say, surprisingly, I am satisfied with DeepFreeze. I am running it on Windows 11 and so far not one single problem. The only difference that stands out to me is that, unlike Shadow Defender, you have to reboot to go from Frozen to unFrozen. With Shadow Defender you could go to Shadow mode without a reboot. That's about the only thing. I think I will be purchasing it at the end of the trial. So long Shadow Defender, it was great while it lasted.

    How about these features?
    1. Commit Now
    2. RAM used as write cache
    3. File exclusion list
    4. Registry exclusion list
    5. Right-click Commit by Shadow Defender

One license per machine. But I only have one that I need it on. And one of the Faronics engineers just now informed me that June 2024 was the last update. One more thing: I just found out from that engineer if you have DeepFreeze Standard and you want to change the size of your Thaw Space, you have to do an uninstall of the program, then reinstall so that you can get to the step where you designate how big or small you want your Thaw Space.

The Commit Now doesn't work in DeepFreeze the way it does in SD. But if I have anything that I want to save while in Freeze mode, I move it to my Thaw Space. When I reboot, that item will be safe in my Thaw Space. No registry exlcusion list that I have found yet--but honestly, I have not looked.

    @Moose World

    Shadow Defender website is here

    Download is here

    Latest version is 1.5.0.726

No headache's or problems as far as I know.

    In Windows 11
You could try turning off fast startup also know as Hiberboot, hybrid boot, or hybrid shutdown as that is not a real boot/reboot (as I understand it) and is a sort of virtual boot hibernation state.

    From Shadow Defender Manual

    Frequently Asked Questions
Q : Why Shadow Mode works only if I restart the computer? If I shut down the computer, all changes remain after reboot.
Fast startup is turned on by default in Windows 8/10. When it is turned on, Windows will take hibernation instead of shut down, so after reboot all changes will remain. To discard all changes made in shadow mode after shut down, please disable fast startup.

I think that Shadow Defender is developed to the optimum so probably doesn't require an update.

I have 2 machines with Windows 11 V24H2 build 26100.3476, Shadow Defender won't even launch, Windows won't allow it even with core isolation disabled. I'm not interested in workarounds, quite frankly my image programs can restore the system in 2 minutes, but Shadow Defender website should be corrected, Win 11 is NOT supported.

No disrespect intended Osaban.but others seem to be able to run Shadow Defender on Windows 11.
We read about many update dramas with unwanted 'doze 'updates'.
As far as Shadow Defender being the problem I believe that the 'doze system has become malignant and in certain ways have become counter productive and hubristic either by policy or stupidity and by increment have attempted to stifle user and third party developer integrity and independence.

I received this snide hit piece link today from a member in private message.

I am not in communication with Tony so he could be dead according to the forum poster. I have no way of knowing.
It's been a long time since I've had any communication from/with Tony and I feel that I have gone as far as I can go in defending Shadow Defender without some real support. The snide comments get me down.

I am still open to helping other Shadow Defender users if I can. As I have often said, I am no expert but an enthusiast.
I still think that Shadow Defender is the best software that I have used for it's stated purpose.
It seems that independent brilliance is always crushed and is anathema to monolithic 'development'.
I will still use Shadow Defender on any 'doze system that I have and it will certainly see my lifetime out..
I may be a Luddite in terms of modern but I'm a child of a different time and I don't want to proceed into this new era that dehumanizes.
Two things always in place, carrot and stick but I fear, ultimately, neither will be necessary. Arcane lobotomy. We won't care or be able to care. It will not matter any more.

I insist sdmode, others have not installing Shadow Defender on Win 11 version 24H2, and if they have they used a workaraound. It is not meant to be criticism to you, I have 2 machines with Wndows 11 V24H2, different brands as well, and default configuration. On both machines Windows notifies that the program is not compatible.

well, it seems some use the program without any problems. As for myself after almost 10 years of good services, I had to uninstalled it because of BSOD…

Without any issues with a trade-off: disabling Fast Startup, Core Isolation, Memory Isolation. I don't mind Fast Startup but the others.

I agree. If something has to be rigged in order to work than it's not a viable solution.

For myself I stopped using ShadowDefender because my pc would freeze up whenever I tried to enter shadow mode. I believe the culprit in my case is a conflict with AppGuard Solo. Although I miss ShadowDefender, worked great for years, DeepFreeze works fine for me with my current set up.
